I'm fix'n on getting a 25-06 if the money tree shakes and I sell one of my guns that someone is looking at. I like the flatness of the shot and it is big enough for deer if I ever take that up.

I'm going to prove to Gary that the 204 is a great coyote round :-) I've got faith in it. Just picked up some Berger bullets that I've heard do wonders on coyotes.

Hey Eric, What weight did you get in the Bergers? I've read that the 35 gr. Berger is "the" bullet for the .204. I've been wanting to try some in my .204, just haven't got around to it.

EVERY COYOTE THAT I HAVE KILLED THIS YEAR HAS BEEN WITH A SAVAGE 204 OR A DPMS 204

If there is the slightest chance that a coyote will get up and run away, I think a bigger gun is in order, especially if you are hunting a contest. i don't like wounding an animal, and watch it run and hide and I never find it, or trail blood until it ends and never find the animal. I want them to "Bangflop!!!" twitch and ring the tail, but be anchored at the shot. It is still my opinion that the 223 Remington cartridgewith a 52 grain pill, is the minimum for coyotes. Over the last 40 years I have shot a train load of coyotes, and I can count on one hand the number of coyotes that I have lost, due to a bad shot, and they run off and died some place else. I have just heard to many people and read to many stories about the 204 and coytes running off, or bullet splashing and wounding dogs. A coyote running away from you will not win you any contests, nor will it put fur on your stretchers, or gas in your truck. I am sorry, until the 204 grows up and starts anchoring coyotes well, it should & will remain a fox, rockchuck, crow, squirrel gun, for me!!??.
That is just my opinion, and I am sticking to it, until I am proven wrong, but I don't think it is possible! Bullet weight, diameter, and velocity = killing power! Or as Einstein put it - E=mc2 Gary

35gr bergers, Bob. Your welcome to try some of them to see how they shoot. Are you going to be at the great wall this Saturday?

dogslayer - OLD People? Old people are NOT afraid to try new stuff, we have just been around long enough to have tried new stuff, and we know what is proven to work and what is not! It is called "living experience" That gives us old people a leg up on all you young whipper snappers! LOL
In other words: we have been there, done that, bought the Lynyrd Skynyrd T-Shirt, wore it out, now it is used to wash the truck! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Got a question, I was thinking about the 25-06 but ammo is fairly expensive and I've heard the barrels wear out faster than others, the .243 can have nearly the same trajectory with a 55 grain bullet and you can up it to over 100 grains for bigger game, wouldn't this be the best all around rifle, multi-purpose if you will for varmit or deer, cost wise and longevity of the barrel? And what is the deal with the .243WSSM, it seems you are not gaining much over the standard .243 Win, and I would also think ammo is much more prevelent for the .243 win over the others except for the .223 which is really inexpensive when compared. ballisticscalculator.winchester.com/ On this Winchester Ballistic calculator I can put in a 55 grain for all three and the .243 comes out on top for shooting the flatest. .223/22-250/.243
