Honestly, I prefer the .22-250, but i like semi-auto capabilities of my AR. Ive been eye-balling the Olympic Arms AR in .22-250 but probably gonna hold off until they get a higher capacity mag or the prices on the mags come down a bit. But then there is the AR chambered in .243...

Yeah Olympic Arms in making a 243 Win, and a 243 WSSM, both great cartridges. But, If I was going to have a 223, I would want it Ackley Improved or AI'ed. I also want a 243 AI, and a 22-250 AI, and, and , and! ?? I wonder about a 204 AI? A barrel burner I bet! Gary A side thought about the 204 AI, I bet it would be so fast that the bullet would goes to piece upon exiting the barrel, turn into dust!

I absolutely love my 22-250. This is by far the most accurate gun in the world. WORLD! Thats right. But its really really heavy too. Dang near 16lbs which I believe is the limit for hunting rifles in Idaho. My .204 is finally coming around now too. I just stumbled on a 35gr berger load with 29.2gr of BLC-2 creating a .240" 3 shot group. Average velocity is 3940fps resulting in 200ft/pds of energy at 500yds. Supposedly this is the bullet for larger varmints when using the .204. Ive had some "splash" effects using the extremely accurate sierra bk's. The .204 is my spot and stalk walking varmint rifle. Its heavy too, coming in at 13lbs but I have an Outlaw Sling that makes packing easy (thanks Gary).

My AR is pushing 14lbs now with the silencer so im not hiking too far with it. But it shoots better than I do. I shoot the cheap Fiochi 50 grain ballistic tips at like $16 a box of 50 and it groups that cheap stuff at around a half inch all day long. Does a pretty good job on knocking down the 'yotes as well. This way I can practice with the same ammo I hunt with. And I also use the Outlaw Sling, thanks Gary!

I'm thinkin about getting an Olympic Arms AR in .243 complete upper for my simthwession AR. I have a savage 110 bolt action in .243 that shoots like a pro. I just like the quick follow up shot you can do with an Ar. For now ill just stick with my 5.56..

I suppose someday Ill have a AR style gun as well. The .243 is an appealing caliber and would fill a metric gap in my arsenal.

AR's too rich for my blood. Now for the 700 Varmit on Black Friday, first my daughter said I need to be 3 hours early to make sure to be first since they only have one in .243, now my wife is telling me 4 hours early, that would be 8pm in line for a midnight opening to get in the store. I go to sleep around 8pm and maybe a bit past 9pm on weekends. This is going to hurt. Good news, it may have stopped raining for a minute, freezing temps though could be possible, 32 this morning. It is going to be a long night.

The other good news is as much as the wife had been not too happy with another gun purchase she already had me order a 6-24 scope and has plans for the daughters to all chip in for a Christmas present.
I've resigned myself to start from the top, .243 if not available then go to the 22-250 and then the .223 if the 22-250's not available. I see a bunch of you shoot the .223's too so I'm going to think that should not be a problem.
The .243 is still the pick since the one son-in-law is from Montana and we are going to try and make a deer hunting trip next season.
the comfort sling also looks good. That will probably be a purchase before next season. That would be a lot more convenient than continually trying to push the single sling into position. I've whacked my head a couple times when my hands were full trying to re-position.

.223 is plenty of power IMO to kill a dog. Thats why I'm not in to much of a rush to get a .243 upper for my AR. Plus .223 is a cheaper round then the .243 so you dont have to reload if you don't want to. I just love my Ar because you can keep touching off rounds if you miss..Brian

Got the camo 700 Varmit bull barrel in .243, final cost after rebate is around 305+ tax. I'm glad it was a rifle because I'd never do the long wait by a door for any electronics. Rifle I needed at about 1/2 cost, seemed like a reasonable trade for the time invested. The 22-250's were the last to sell, the .308's, my one .243 and the .223's all sold first. I was surprised as at that price I almost got a 22-250 too but I also prefer being married. The 4-12x40 glass that came with it is coming off and a Leapers 6-24x50 www.amazon.com/Leapers-6-24x50-Varmint-Illuminated-Mil-Dot/product-reviews/B0018L9XT4 is going on with their super good rings. The wife told me to order it as my kids were going to buy it for me for Christmas. Should be up and shooting in a week or so. Reviews are somewhat all over the map but I've had great luck with the last two that I've had and they have a lifetime warranty.

RANGE REPORT!! Ive been wanting a Remy 700 in .243 for a while but im wondering how accurate they are. The 70 grain ballistic tips seem like the ticket for reaching way out there. Good looking gun 72camaro, I think the coyotes in your area are gonna be in trouble!

Good for you 72camaro. Good looking rifle, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Now you just need to get a .22/250, .223, .204 and........... Just get out there now and start hunting those coyotes. There is a varmint club in western Wash. If stickmansplatmaster reads this he may be able to give you the link or tell you how to contact them. Congradulations on the new gun, enjoy. Bob
