I went out for a while on Friday. Not a lot of squirrels out yet. I saw maybe 10 or 12, was only able to get a shot at two. Nailed both of them with the 218 Bee. They did some pretty impressive aerobatics. There is still some patches of snow on the north sides and as it warmed up the roads started getting pretty snotty so I got out of there.

Good to hear you are seeing some. Yes, it can get nasty with rain out there.

We really haven't had that much rain up until yesterday afternoon and evening. We need rain but it keeps the roads messed up. I might try it again Friday if we don't get any more rain.

Finally got Gary out shooting again today. Since he got married he hasn't been out too much. He was getting a pretty bad case of cabin fever. We got out in the hills before 11 a.m. but we didn't see any squirrels until around 12:30 then they started coming out more and more. We were out until almost 4:00 and wound shooting 35 or 40 of the little rascals. Missed a few and just couldn't get on some of them. They seemed pretty skittish, just about the time you get them in the scope they run off. Sure would like to see a badger but no luck there. It was a beautiful day to be out, about 52 degrees, sunny and absolutely no wind. Really enjoyed getting out with the ol' varmint, aka Gary, again.

Good for you getting out. Someone had mentioned it is cheaper to reload .223 than to buy .17hmr, and it is for those of us who bought supplies many years back. Still, a .223 is a bit much for shooting inside a vehicle compared to the .17hmr or a .22.
Glad Gary made an escape. There seems to be things that just need to get done when the wifey is around and can be put on the back burner if we go solo. Good for him getting married. We will be 40 years in November but she wants me to enjoy my shooting, which works out for both of us.

It's really not bad shooting inside the pickup. It's really fun shooting them with a centerfire and you can shoot them at a lot longer ranges. Sometimes we'll set up a portable bench to shoot from. Mostly though we use .22 L R. Good you have a wife that understands your shooting.

I went out again yesterday. It was a pretty nice day but there wasn't many out. I managed to shoot 12 of the little buggers. Most of them wouldn't hold still long enough to get a shot at them. Enjoyed getting out though.

I was out for a while yesterday afternoon, there wasn't as many as I thought there would be. Don't know why, it was a nice day, no wind, mostly sunny. I managed to shoot about 8 or so. Most of the ones running around seemed very skittish, running from hole to hole. I think the females are down having pups. It was good to get out and roam around, I've been staying home because of the rising gas prices. Thanks Joe!

Went out again yesterday, I couldn't believe how scarce they were. I was out there for about 4 hrs. and only shot 8. I haven't seen any new pups yet so the females are still down under. Still should have seen more males running around. I'm starting to think maybe there's going to be a shortage this year. I hope not. Just have to wait and see I guess.

It seems to me like every year there's fewer. Haven't had a full brick day in a few years now.

Gary and I were out yesterday for a while. There wasn't many out. About noon it seemed like they just disappeared, Siesta time? Ithink we managed to shoot about ten or so apiece. We saw two eagles feeding on whistle pigs.

We always figure they go down roughly around, I think, 11am and then are back out around 3'ish or so. Always have stragglers though.

Usually when it's warmer they go down during the middle of the day but it wasn't really that warm and there was a slight breeze. We were kinda of surprised they just disappeared.
