Looks like we are heading down the 2nd week in May for two days and my daughter is lining people up to be with us, her and her husband and maybe another, sounds like a lot of people for as few whistle pigs as it sounds like is coming out. During that week I'm not sure what days as we are also heading to Montana for two days and we will go in the direction and time for weather to be the best for both states and it is a drive each day there, next state and back. The son-in-law I'm coming down with has a pistol shoot in Yakima on Saturday of that week, that's why we are only shooting 2 days in each state. He is the national champ for one division and now is trying to shoot competitively in two others so he needs it for the points so we are on the road on Friday.
If you have been out lately, any better for volume of whistle pigs?

Guns are sighted in for Idaho and Montana run, couple 22's, .17hmr, couple .223's of bolt and AR, .243 if we do rock chucks in Montana and a obligatory .22lr pistol. If I get my load situated for the 22-250 I may drop the .243 and take it, but I don't think I'll have time.
Any new update on the Whistle Pigs if they are out and about? Hopefully more than last year and I think we will have double the people shooting at the same time and we only got a few last year compared to previous years like 667 in 2.5 days for 2 of us. But it will be good to spend a couple days with family doing it.
Bob, have you shot your Rock Chuck place in a while? Wish we had time to do that with you again but this trip is Whistle Pigs for 2 days and leave. No time unfortunately as it would have been good to catch up.

I haven't been out to shoot whistle pigs in a while. Between the crazy up and weather and having a sinus infection I just haven't been out. I'm finally feeling like doing something again so I hope to get out one day this week. I haven't been out after chucks yet either. I've been talking to a friend about it. We may do that this week too, weather permitting. I did think about asking if you'd have time to get out after them while you were in Idaho. Good luck on your trip, be safe. Bob

We are still planning on being in Idaho 2 days, either Sunday and Monday 8th and 9th, or Thursday and Friday the 12th and 13th. Still watching weather between you and Montana to figure best route. Don't like it so short but we will take what we can get.
The wife and I are still looking at maybe moving to Idaho for retirement in about 3 years. My boss is going to Challis, a bit North and East of Mountain Home. He said hunting was awesome there but is guessing. What do you know? Deer, elk, ducks, geese, what they got?

I really don't know much about the Challis area, never been there. They get a little more winter than I like.

Bob, you out there? Haven't seen much posting in a while. How did your season shake out? Cottontail season is open now for us and I have a few hopping around the house looking for a spot in the freezer. Didn't feel like butchering one up tonight so I let him see another day.

Yeah, I'm here. Don't get online near as much as I used to. I've had some health problems off and on. I don't get around too good and don't walk very good. I'm a little leery about going out by myself now. Seems like everybody around here has lost interest in getting out. It's cooling off a little now so I might go out and drive around a little and not get out of the truck much. Didn't get out after whistle pigs much, just at the first of the season and it seemed like there weren't many. Badgers seem to be kind of scarce too. I did drive over to the Bliss area and shoot rock chucks last spring. We did pretty good on them.

Tough getting old. I'm almost 62 and between my wood and dad's wood, he is almost 85, we split and cut about 15 cord of wood this year. Didn't know where the wood was going to come from but God blessed us and people started giving us calls it was available. I need 4 cord, dad 7 for the winter and we got another 4 his neighbor just told us to cut for dad for next year, I've got a buddy that hopefully comes up with 4 for me again next season. Dad's a tough old bird, barely walking but if I'm working, he works. I do all the cutting as he falls easy. I'm done with shoulder surgery but now one of my knees is giving me a bit of an issue and I leave to start getting elk camp ready on Wednesday, and it is a tough hard hike up the mountain with a heavy backpack, then back down on Saturday to help the almost 80 year olds to setup base camp about 2500fl below where I'm at, then go back up to top camp the same day.

Yep, the "Golden Years"! Good you're able to stay pretty active and do the things you want though. I have a real problem with my balance and falling. I can still do some varmint hunting if I can sit in the truck and shoot. Can't do coyote stands anymore though. Hope you have lots of luck with the elk and deer.

Stay safe Bob. Dad got blessed with a gal, about 60 that went to church that was losing her job as an in-house caregiver and she didn't have anywhere to go. Dad gives her a small stipend, a room in the house with her own key, and she cooks and cleans and is nice to Dad. God couldn't have made it go any better as he struggles to walk at times but she has him do as much manly things around the house as he can, get the firewood if someone else doesn't and keep the fire going, takes care of the garden, fixes things and he is happy as a clam, as he is still needed as she has almost no ability for those things, but he is getting his weight back and a smile on his face.
