We went out again this afternoon. Beautiful day, sunny, just a slight breeze. We weren't seeing many when we first got out there. Shot a few here and there. Finally about 2 o'clock it seemed like they started coming out. We shot several up until about 3 then decided it was time to head home. I guess we shot about 20 between us. They just don't seem to quite be out in full force yet.

Fantastic, a start is a start on those guys. Hope that because of lack of shooting them last year they didn't catch some sort of disease and die off on their own. I think there is a natural thing that thins them out when they get too many for an area.

Yes, I agree, if we don't shoot them and keep them thinned out mother nature will take care of it.

We went out this afternoon for about 2 1/2 hrs. Gary was shooting his 22/250 with 40 gr. h.p. and I was shooting my 218 Bee with 45 gr. h.p. We saw a lot of good aerobatics. Fun, fun, fun ! Still, not out real good, I don't think they'll be out real good until after the pups start showing up.

Shooting them with centerfires is lots of fun. Lots of splat factor and aerobatics. When more of them get out and about we'll switch over to mainly 22 l.r. If you've never shot them with centerfires, you're missing out on a lot of fun. We always start out the season with centerfires.

Might have to bring the old prairie dog guns along then.

Yeah you should at least give it a try. And you can shoot them a lot farther. I know of a couple guys that only use centerfires. But I do like using the ol' 10/22.

We were out again today. It was overcast and cool so not as many out as last week. There was enough to keep it interesting and fun though. We were shooting the center fires and got to see a lot of good aerobatics.

That is a lot of bullet for those little guys, but I'll have to try it.

He got turned inside out.
Shot my 22-250 for the first time yesterday. It will not be coming as it is a safe queen. I might have to get one for regular shooting, it was really a nice round to shoot. Been holding off since my .243 will do most anything it can do, but just not quite as fast, 3800fps instead of 4300fps.

I love the 22'250, if I could only have one varmint cartridge that would be it.

We were out on Wednesday and did real good on the ground squirrels, we shot for about 3 hours, until we both ran out of ammo. The young pups were out and running all over. Then yesterday we went to another area that we haven't been to yet this year. It's usually a real good area to shoot whistle pigs and we've shot quite a few badgers and jack rabbits there. We hardly saw anything yesterday though, just a few whistle pigs. They should have been running all over, it was a beautiful day, lots of sun shine, slight breeze. Don't know what the problem was. We're going to give it a couple weeks and try it again.

I've found they move from year to year. The first year we were shooting it was in this large plain but after a few years almost nothing there but they were in numbers a quarter mile away. Last year we went to a place that had a ton of older holes and it was nearly like a ghost town. They move. They may not be there now so check a quarter mile away you may find them.
I also use Google Earth to look for a bunch of mounds.
