This is a huge area and we covered several miles, we were out there all day. It has been a very good area for years. They just weren't there. Don't know if they've moved out, been shot out or died off from the plague. According to the f & g biologist, if they die from plague there would be dead squirrels laying all over. We didn't see that. Might just have to quit that area.

We were out on Wednesday and did real good on the ground squirrels, we shot for about 3 hours, until we both ran out of ammo. The young pups were out and running all over. Then yesterday we went to another area that we haven't been to yet this year. It's usually a real good area to shoot whistle pigs and we've shot quite a few badgers and jack rabbits there. We hardly saw anything yesterday though, just a few whistle pigs. They should have been running all over, it was a beautiful day, lots of sun shine, slight breeze. Don't know what the problem was. We're going to give it a couple weeks and try it again. How many we talking about? And I agree...I ditched the HMR years ago, as it simply lacked fun factor. Even im getting a lot of close shooting, its go big or go home. Ha!

I like the HMR for anything over 60 yards. Mostly shoot the .22lr for closer. Also take it so when the .22lr barrel gets hot, sometimes a lot of shooting, I have another to switch too while it cools. We also take pistols for the real close.
I'm really hoping my area is good when I get there. Long drive from Washington State to find they have all moved away. I'll be down mid May. Date firmed up but not sure if I get to go to Montana yet. Will not know till I get to Idaho and call my hunt guru in Montana to see if he can get the time off. He is around 70 and said he is busier now than ever doing home fixing of whatever someone needs. He is a plumber by trade but does about everything.

Yep, does look like the board is still on.
I'm going to finish my construction job early tomorrow and told the boss that I would like to go to the range when done and not go to a second job. To the range it is. Got some load development going on as well as I've got to finalize some of the guns for the varmint trip in May. Not sure how it is going to go as my contact in Montana is a bit iffy this year as he has been working all the time. My daughter and son-in-law in Montana, haven't really got it squared away on when they will want to go shooting, one day, two days or none? I'll try to start getting them finalized in the coming week so I can make plans. With my guy in Montana he said to call when I get to Idaho. Still hoping the weather will be good when I get there too. I've had a couple years where the weather didn't cooperate, but usually it is fair and the worse is wind.
