Gary and I were out for a bit this afternoon. We saw a half dozen or so. Gary got his first of the year with his .223 AR.

6 is better than none. .223, that would put a wallop on them.

Yeah, .223 and 55 gr. V-Max does a number on them.

What twist is on that .223? I've found a full load of Benchmark with 50 grain Zombies, V-max is close enough, to be very accurate in my .223 bolt with 1:9 and with my 40 grain loads within the margin of error the about as accurate with a different powder but about the same velocity. It shoots 3445fps and a 26" Savage barrel for the 50 grainers. Going to take it prairie dog hunting this year when the AR gets too warm to shoot from too many targets of opportunity.

I'm not sure. It's a Ruger AR. Probably 1 in 8 or 9. It's pretty accurate, he likes it real well. Some times when you hit those squirrels with a .223 they will fly a little. I gave a Ruger American with 1 in 8 twist. All I've shot in it are 50 gr. V-Max and 55 gr. FMJ. It is real accurate with those.

I thought I remember you use Benchmark? If you do, I have a great 50 grain V-Max load. Let me know. It is accurate in my AR and in my bolt gun.

I've only used CFE 223. It's accurate and seems a lot easier to clean. Doesn't take as many patches to get it clean.

Got my first two whistle pigs this year. Gary got about three more with his 22/250, one did some pretty impressive aerobatics. Pretty nice afternoon today, thought there would have been more out.

I'm looking every day for back yard bunnies to shoot since all my other seasons are done. Got till March 15th if it is the same as last year. Hopefully be back in Idaho in mid May. My daughter and son-in-law are trying to get stationed back to Mountain Home after being switched to Virginia for the last couple years.

May is a good time. Maybe we can meet up and shoot some squirrels or 'chucks.

Might be able to do that. May be going down alone this year, few days in Mountain Home and then I'll head to Montana to meet up with my hunting guru. Has some new prairie dog places plus we usually go get some cottontails for the freezer too. My son-in-law may not be able to go as he might have some class for work he will have to be at for the Federal government and Homeland Security.

Gary and I were out yesterday for a couple hours, There was quite a few squirrels out running around. Gary shot several with his 10/22. I shot one with my .44 special and gave one some air time with my .223 and 50 gr. V-Max. It was kind of cool, overcast and breezy. I think if it had been a nicer day there would have been more out. Dark clouds started moving in and started sprionkling so we fihgured we better give up for the day. It was fun getting out and shooting a few whistle pigs.

Good for you. For shooting things our cottontail season ended 3/15/20 and I was actively looking for them around the house and nothing. Couple days after season over two of them about 20' away staring at me like, "What you going to do about it?"
Well, hopefully they have some bunnies as the population around the house was looking a little low after about 4 ended up in the freezer.
Still just amazed at the calibers you guys use for the whistle pigs. That's a lot of bullet.
