Nobody doing anything? Come on, tell us what you've been hunting/shooting. I'm sure everybody's not just sitting at home.

I'm with you as I like to see what you guys are doing. I've am about ready to forgo any more pheasant hunting as the only guy we hunt with that has a dog, well the dog is more for ducks and geese and we essentially went on a long walk while watching other people shoot pheasant. And, if he ever does get the scent of a pheasant you better have your running shoes on as he will get it up in the air 60yds in front of you. I saved the day and did some jump shooting along and pegged a Widgeon duck, first one of those. Hit him from behind while flying away and he for some reason he turned and faced me and couldn't get much lift and he was across the slough on no hunting area but they let us get our animals, so I hit him again. Had #3 steel loads from the pheasant hunt earlier and hit him pretty hard. My brother seen the picture and told me I need to work on my shooting as I didn't hit him a bit higher. Not sure what he is talking about as it looks like plenty of pellets to me and he dropped like a rock.

Looks like you hit him good to me. Never shot a widgeon myself.

My wife wanted a bunch of the feathers. I've got two pictures of the same bird but they look completely different in different lighting. Taken fairly soon after shooting. About 1/2 hour later.

Well, Chuckm and I went out to try to call in a coyote this morning. No luck but at least we got out in the hills and had an enjoyable morning, nice weather.

Tough day hunting with the rain so heavy at times it looked like fog. Shooting from a slimy ditch with not very good footing my brother and I did manage to get a couple ducks. Very hard earned and especially since we are better shots than what we were doing yesterday. First time to shoot these two breeds, Northern Shoveler and the pretty one and pretty fast was the Green Teal. That was a crossing shot on the Teal.

Teal are fast tricky little ducks that can be hard to hit sometimes. Always kinda reminded me of dove hunting the way the fly. They're kid of a tasty duck though.

Sunday morning my friend Marshall and I went out hunting in unit 45-1 I believe it was for Mule deer Doe. We got to our spot started walking and he instantly saw one run away from us across the road. So we started the trek up to the road where we were stopped by fish and game and had our licenses checked. They let us go on and we followed it up the hill and about a half mile. I saw two run and heard him shoot. Then I took a shot missed my first one and reloaded and shot again and connected to the throat of the deer. It dropped. I had to put another one in it to make sure it stopped moving. Overall it was a great little hunt. From the start to when we both had our tags filled it was less than 3 hours and that included all the driving time to get there. He showed me how to gut a deer and we have them hanging in his garage, and are going tonight to cut them up and divide the meat. It was my first hunt for anything bigger than coyote and my first successful hunt ever (unless you count ground squirrel). I had a blast and cant wait until next year!

Cody, like you I have not done any deer hunting before and I just got permission to hunt on 400 acres that I have been told deer are hanging out. I've got one day, next Thursday, to try it in Washington, 2 point or bigger black tail. But I do get to go to Montana later for a doe with my son-in-law who said that is almost a gimme.
The wife has informed me she really does not want two deer in the freezer as she does not like it. She does not eat any of my game birds or rabbits either. It is either cow, turkey, ham or chicken from the store, and that is that. I know my dad and brother would be more than happy to take some meat off my hands.

I haven't tried it yet. I have about 40 pounds in the freezer. I just have to figure out how to cook it so I don't kill it haha.

Just don't over cook it. Wild game meat gets dry and tough if it's over cooked. Try wrapping in bacon or using your favorite marinade. I love venison I can eat a whole deer by myself in about three months. You can google all kinds of recipes on the internet.

I think I have a couple of small problems before I go hunting, my scope I have was to do predator hunting in Idaho and shot at distance, not Black Tail deer here in Washington. I was told that I should have about a 3 power scope because shooting will be about 50yds or so, most likely. Lowest I can go is 6 power and looks like the deer will fill the whole glass as I've set the whole thing up to shoot under an inch at 200yds and to see small lines at 200yds at 20 power punching paper or to shoot Rock Chucks or Badgers, which didn't fit my schedule this year. No time to buy a new scope but I'll be running what I got.
Been washing and spraying everything in sight with no-scent. Read up on the Black Tail and supposedly they are a bit more random on what they do than Mulies or White Tail and they listen very closely and will smell you out in a heartbeat. 50 yds, I wish I had open sights. No wonder they used so many model 94 30/30's around here in the old days. Just also found out they do not see orange but that they will notice reflective of orange. My cheap vest I got is reflective some, now I have to go get something else. For whatever reason the place I got my orange vest from also put reflectives sparkles on their black name logo as well as the vest.

Another thing one of the guys I know that has hunted quite a bit said I need to check the trees as often as the ground that I'm looking for deer. He said if I see a cougar, shoot it. When you are solo and you see a cougar he is stalking you. Didn't know that. You have to have a license for cougar so I would probably have to turn it in. Not going to get a tag for cougar because I still think it is very, very remote to be stalked where I am going.
