Is shooting from the bed of a pickup truck allowed per IDFG regulations?
And by that, I mean a driver shooter combo, shooting with the tuck at a complete stop.
This question is for Whistlers only. I know about the "Off the maintained road completely" for big game.

Same for varmints. As long as you're not on a road that is maintained for public use. Most of the "roads" we shoot whistle pigs from aren't really roads.

But I don't think you can shoot from inside the truck though, can you?

If you are shooting south of Boise, you may run across a Military Police, or they may run across you, either way, they may try to tell you, that you can't or shouldn't shoot from your vehicle. As long as you are on a 2 track goat trail, you are ok!
If you are on the main roads, those are Federally Maintained by the Military, you will want to not shoot from your truck from them, but you are ok as long as you walk off side of the main roads.

Man, more than one time I've wanted to shoot out of the window of the truck because it was more convenient than jumping out, reloading. We always empty before getting in the vehicle, I don't know if habbit or law up here but that's what we do.

I've been checked by a F & G officer while I was sitting in my Jimmy using the window for a rest. He never mentioned shooting from the vehicle, just checked my license, asked how I was doing, visited a bit and went on his way. I wasn't on a maintained road, just a two track "road" out in the hills. Bob

Wind was mostly around 15mph yesterday and later 20 with a gust to 30mph so hunting was tough as they were staying down or the most part. I decided to try my hand at driving and shooting from the cab of the truck. For what I seen it was successful. 12 for 13 and the one I missed I overcompensated for the wind and missed by a hair. Most shots, strange enough, were around 30 yds and the far ones would not get up high enough to see but about 30yds there would be usually one in the set that would should his head to see what was going on.

You did better than we did today. It was a beautiful day, hardly any wind, just a very slight breeze. They just weren't out for some reason and the ones that were out seemed pretty skittish. We managed to get a few but not many.

Bob, I think I shot about a dozen or a dozen and a half today.
I guess I am going to have to stop going with you guys, you seem to do better luck without me along! LOL

I don't think I shot that many, "unk" Dave shot a few more than I did with his .17 HMR. No, don't quit going, we enjoy having an "ol' varmint" along! Bob
