Late January. Farmer told me he had heard coyotes howling/yipping back in a timbered draw. I set up on a high hill over looking the draw around 300yrds away. I was cross-wind from the draw. Had my .223AR set for 300, good to go.
I commenced to squall on my Pee-Wee. A few minutes later out stepped a very small statured canine. Sun was at her back so it took me a minute to I.D in my scope. Yup coyote. I held 2" below her shoulder, had a stout angled crosswind. Shot, hit her midship, she commenced to spinning & running in 10' circles. Dumped 5 more rds, knocked her down twice. 3rd hit game over.
Right as she hit the snow for good. Out from the far side of the timber strip hauled a large coyote. Near twice her size. Lost him quickly in some smaller rolling hills nearby. No shot offered.
Picked up that female, she was atleast 2yrs old, by her teeth. Came back the following days over a wk span. 5th day was a charm. I commenced to squall on Pee-Wee, large male busted out the far side[he heard that sound before ;D]. I held high as he was way out there. Hit him in the front leg, he rolled.
He got up running angled to me, held high & a wide lead. Hit him in the chest, he went down, got back up & slowly walked over the far hill. DANG! I commenced to trotting his way, picked up his blood trail. Seen him a few times as we both went over small hills, no shot. Dang coyote lay down.
I trotted faster, he was dumping blood good now. I was parrallel to a highway. A farmer drove by & we waved at each other. He disappeared over the hill on the highway. I stepped up my pace.
Shortly thereafter, I heard a vehicle slam on it's brakes down the highway up ahead. Low en behold, here comes that same farmer backing up like a race car driver up & over the hill he had just drove over. I thought, yeah he's crazy LOL!
Anyway, he yelled, "You after a wounded coyote?" YEAH! I yelled. He yelled back "Hop in the back!" So I climbed over the fence & trudged up through the drift & started to climb into the back of his pick-up.
I'm not all the way in yet, he stomps on the gas. About threw me out of the box over the rear bumper . I laid down in the box & held on, this guy is a nut.
Another couple of blocks down the highway. I'm looking off to the South looking for my coyote. There he is just up ahead. Farmer slammed on the brakes. I jumped out & put him down for good.
