As I remarked previous. Red Fox have excellent hearing. But they tend to dismiss some ambiant noises. I Mortally hit a coyote. Coyote took off & I couldn't reconnect. I seen him go on land I didn't have permission on, it was getting dark quickly. That night I located the landowner & called him. He said I could go look for my coyote. Prior to me, walking in, I seen a Red Fox laying around 300yrds off the gravel. Red seen me, watching him. I drove on past him a couple hundred yards. I parked just over a large hill & commenced to walk towards the last area I seen my coyote on. The snow was very loud & crusty as I tromped forward deeper into the section. As I neared the top of the 1st long hill. I panned to my left. There, atad over 200yrds away, still laid that Red Fox. Red was oblivious to my presense. Point being, I sounded like a hippo in a china shop walking in. I took a quick picture of the Red & later found my dead coyote. Here is the Red[curled up] from my view point atop the high hill. I just happen to be angled cross wind from him. I might add, Red Fox's eyesight is not all that great. Not anything like the coyotes, I might add. Dead coyote I recovered that day.
