Thought we needed a topic on Reloading..
I love to reload. Its a great hobby and gets me out into the garage where Im more productive anyhow.
And Ill preface this topic with a safety statement as is the norm for all recipe sharing throughout the internet.
Safety should be your number one goal in reloading. Take your time, never hurry, and double check everything..or better yet have a mentor check your reloading habits to offer suggestions on improvement. Reloading is most certainly not a time for ego to show up. If your not sure ask for assistance.
All of the load data posted below should absolutely be verified before you accept it.
Now on to the recipes that I use for my rifles. Although I reload for accuracy and not speed please verify the minimum and max charges for your needs if you do decide to use these recipes.
Im petrified of blowing myself up so I generally approach max with extreme caution if ever at all.
204 Ruger Coyote Load:
Ive found that the 35gr berger bullet have quite the terminal effect on coyotes out to 430yds. And as a bonus are super accurate out of my gun (savage model 12 fcv). A 1/4" @100yds group is normal for this recipe in my gun.
35gr Berger bullet
29.5gr BLC-2 powder
Fed205m Small Rifle Primer
Winchester brass
3944fps average
204 Ruger Small Varmint Load:
Ive fount that the 32gr and 39gr Sierra Blitz King bullets are very accurate and frangible. Small things fly when hit by this green tipped pill. But in my experience this bullet is too fragile to be used on Coyotes.
39gr Sierra Blitzking
25.2gr Benchmark
Fed205m small rifle primers
Winchester brass
3524 fps average with a 16fps SD
* A 1/4" group @100yds is normal for this lower velocity load.
32gr Sierra Blitzking
29.2gr BLC-2
Fed205m small rifle primers
3969fps average
Winchester Brass
1/4" group @100yds
It took me 97 different load combinations with Hornady, Nosler, Sierra and Berger bullets, with 5 different types of powders to find these accurate recipes for the 204. I suffered through a lot of dissapointments at the bench to find these which Im happy to share with everyone. Bob clued me in on the BLC-2 powder and Im happy he did.
22-250:
I settled on one load for my 22-250 (savage model 12 LRPV) that has great accuracy with good velocity. The varmaggedon bullets are very affordable and provide a spectacular dsplay on the varmint fields. This is truly a confidence inspiring rifle but man is it heavy..
55gr Nosler Varmaggedon Flat Base Tipped
34gr Winchester 748
CCI 200 primers
Winchester Brass (primer pockets deburred, neck sized)
3525fps average
1/4" @100yds
(its worth noting that the Savage LRPV is a heavy barrelled bench rest tailored gun. It was not finicky on load development so I picked a recipe that was accurate and cheap to reload)
Lets see your favority loads posted below.
