An email message back from Raul Labrador. Thank you for taking a proactive role in Idaho’s well-being by voicing your thoughts and concerns. I want to take a moment to update you on the current discussion surrounding gun control and the ban of certain weapons and ammunition. On January 16, 2013 President Obama signed 23 executive orders addressing gun control. I am currently reviewing these proposals to ensure that the president's actions and proposals do not violate our constitutionally protected right to bear arms. I will also thoughtfully consider whether the laws we currently have on the books can be better enforced to safeguard our lives and our liberty. As you know, I wholeheartedly support the Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms. Still, I believe our nation and the Second Amendment are strong enough to withstand an examination of ways we can protect the most vulnerable among us without harming those liberties that God has given us to make us free. I look forward to having a thoughtful, honest and straightforward discussion about these issues in the Judiciary Committee over the next few months. Thank you again for being in touch. The more I listen to Idahoans, the better able I am to represent your needs and interests here in Washington. Please feel free to contact me again by visiting my website www.labrador.house.gov or by following me on Facebook or Twitter. Sincerely, Raúl Labrador Member of Congress 1st District, Idaho RL/al

And one from Mike Simpson: Dear Eric: Thank you for contacting me regarding your views on gun ownership and the Second Amendment to the Constitution. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns. Like most Americans, I was horrified to learn of the shootings that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, December 14, 2012, that took the lives of 26 people, 20 of whom were small children. This act of senseless violence in an elementary school has been difficult for anyone to understand, and I mourn with those who lost their children, family members, and friends in this tragedy. Not surprisingly, this incident prompted instant debate on gun control and other political issues. While it is important to have this debate, it is imperative that we continue to also focus our energies on supporting the community that was devastated by this event. The Second Amendment to the Constitution reads: “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” I firmly believe this provision prohibits the federal government from denying law-abiding citizens this right. Therefore, I will not support bans on the ownership of firearms, or legislation that promotes or requires the rationing or taxation of firearms or ammunition. I am also concerned that President Obama is considering bypassing Congress and using executive orders to change firearm laws. Contrary to the claims of gun control advocates, gun ownership is not the sole source of our gun-related crime problem. Illegal firearms trafficking and our “revolving door” justice system, and deficiencies in mental healthcare are significant contributing factors. I will continue to support legislation to reform our justice system to impose stiff sentences on criminals who use a gun while committing a crime. Individuals must understand that criminal behavior will not be tolerated, and will be met with grave penalties. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me about this issue. As your representative in Congress, it is important to me to know your thoughts and opinions about issues affecting our nation today. I also encourage you to visit my website, www.house.gov/simpson, to sign up for my e-newsletter and to read more about my views on a variety of issues. Sincerely, Mike Simpson Member of Congress

I got the same rag letter from Labrador. I am going to write back, and tell him that there is no need to talk about this issue. The 2nd Amendment says it all. Final word.
I am also going to remind him that it is not up to him to work out what he wants, or what the rest of congress wants, it is up to him to work out what WE want, and that is to stop this gun issue in it's tracks, period.
It is time to start getting rid of limp wristed lawyers, and to start punishing these offenders, and make marters out of some of these idiots. There is absolutly no penalties for their behavoirs, tight up the laws, get rid of plea bargaining, get rid of the country club prisons, make people on the outside see that life in prison is not a cake walk. Put the inmates to work doing HARD WORK, make life almost unbearable in prison, so people will have a deterant to doing crime. I think a few public executions would help with the deterant.

The rest of the country needs to takes a few lessons from the Sherriff in Arizona. We need to get rid of a bunch of bleeding heart judges and start enforcing the laws we already have.

Just got some state bills and information from our local range that they send out as e-mail to write our state Congressman, done. I even did our Federal Rep last night as he is a Republican with liberal tendencies, he makes me nervous. The Senators, as mentioned before, are next of kin to Pelosi and Boxer, dumb as rocks on the Constitution and Freedom.
Please keep writing your reps. Don't think you will do it later as later sometimes does not come.

I attended a session at work today titled "Active Shooter Awareness". The session was given by one of our fine City of Boise Police officers. Although he repeated time and time again that he was not trying to sway anyones thoughts on Gun Control he did point out that when a "mass shooting" takes place ( "mass shooting" defined by the FBI as more than 4 people shot by an active shooter) When a law enforcement agency is the only "responder" the average is 14.3 people killed. When a citizen actively responds to the situation the death rate average is 2.5. He cited numerous situations where Concealed Carry Citizens stopped mass shooting attempts and also situations where the Mass shooters were unchecked and therefore killed many people. Im sure youve heard the statement "when seconds count, law enforcement is only minutes away" . Well that was confirmed by the Boise Police Department for me today. I fully respect our law enforcement. Were not fortunate to have police officers onsite at every location. The truth is that people need to be prepared to defend not only themselves but others around them. We need to change our policies to allow people to defend themselves or allow other qualified people to defend us. For example at my work Employees are not allowed to carry any concealed weapons. But being that I work for a public government entity any citizen CAN carry a weapon into the building. Its a gun-free zone for only the people that are employed there. So basically I work in an open season hunting zone for any gun toteing-whacko with a vendetta against City employees. I have a concealed carry license, actively practice shooting, attend seminars on gun training, etc but am not allowed to carry. Thankfully Im also a runner and can do so at great speed and distance. Try to keep up

Good information for all of us: legislature.idaho.gov/idstat/Title18/T18CH40SECT18-4009.htmIdaho code 18-4009 titled: Justifiable Homicide by any person. 18-4009. Justifiable homicide by any person. Homicide is also justifiable when committed by any person in either of the following cases: 1. When resisting any attempt to murder any person, or to commit a felony, or to do some great bodily injury upon any person; or, 2. When committed in defense of habitation, property or person, against one who manifestly intends or endeavors, by violence or surprise, to commit a felony, or against one who manifestly intends and endeavors, in a violent, riotous or tumultuous manner, to enter the habitation of another for the purpose of offering violence to any person therein; or, 3. When committed in the lawful defense of such person, or of a wife or husband, parent, child, master, mistress or servant of such person, when there is reasonable ground to apprehend a design to commit a felony or to do some great bodily injury, and imminent danger of such design being accomplished; but such person, or the person in whose behalf the defense was made, if he was the assailant or engaged in mortal combat, must really and in good faith have endeavored to decline any further struggle before the homicide was committed; or, 4. When necessarily committed in attempting, by lawful ways and means, to apprehend any person for any felony committed, or in lawfully suppressing any riot, or in lawfully keeping and preserving the peace. Please read that you cannot be the aggressor in a situation of Justifiable Homicide. Using deadly force should only be a means to stop an assailant and not to neccessarily kill the person. God forbid if you do have to shoot somebody its not acceptable to keep shooting them if they have been immobilized after the first shot. However! You should never attempt to only graze an attacker or scare them with a "warning shot". If their coming at you, you need to shoot for the vitals. Im no lawyer, nor am I a police officer or any sort of legal counselor. This is only the information Ive gleaned from quality sources.

Ive been reading some of his stuff lately. The list of Massad Ayoob's titles are nearly endless He has a really good youtube video available that discusses what you should do if you are stopped by a police officer and carrying concealed. In the video he points out that you should never say "I have a gun" because this could sound like a threat. Rather than that you should hand the police officer your Concealed weapons permit (which you should always carry) along with your drivers license and ask the Officer how he would like to handle the situation because you are lawfully carrying. Thanks Gary!

I know there are a couple Washington guys on here, call your reps in the house for bill HB 1588 which is for stricter controls and background checks on every gun, including those you would give to your kids. Also, Senate Bill SB 5737 which is a so-called Assault ban wacko bill. This bill also gives the state the right to come into your house once a year at their time they pick and take a look around inside your house if you have a grandfathered so-called assault rifle.

Good! I hope it passes and gets signed because I'm bringing a really scary SR556 with me. I plan to simply display it to the varmints. According to the opposition that should be sufficent to cause the poor little dears to have heart attacks and immediately keel over. To bad it won't quite work that way against the folks who want to steal it, but I have a slightly different solution for that.

Eric If a police officer runs your vehicle plates it comes up on his computer that you have a concealed weapons permit. He sees this before he even walks up to your vehicle. If he ask you if you have a weapon in the vehicle you don't have to tell him anything because he didn't pull you over for a weapon. BUT, I always tell them what they want to know, I have gotten out of 2 speeding tickets for telling the truth. My sons a cop and I know these things. Good luck and don't speed like me.
