This new cartridge doesn't impress me much. It will be expensive and you'll be able to reload .17 centerfire cheaper. They just came out with the .17 Hornet and they already have the .17HMR. Myself, I would a lot rather have a .17 Fireball. It can be loaded down to equall this new cartridge or loaded up to within a few fps of the .17 Rem. A much more effecient and worthy cartridge in my opinion. Bob

I have to say that Im am a bit interested in this new caliber. For a rimfire that does 3000 fps with a 20gr bullet at 17 cal (with ranges out to and possibly beyond 300yds) the numbers are pretty impressive. What I really like, as a fan of the Savage rifles, is that Savage is going to produce these for around the $350 dollar range. One of the reasons I really enjoy the .204 ruger is that its generally easy to find reloading supplies for it.. even during the frenzied Gun Control lunacy thats going on right now. Likewise the 17 win. might just be the ticket for when finding 22lr ammo is difficult. And it seems to far surpass the ballistics of most all other rimfires.

I'd have to say I am pretty stoked about this new load. They keep pushing the limits with rimfire capabilities and 3,000 FPS is impressive. On another note, Savage is the first out of the gates with the Savage BMAG being released mid-April. It is ugly as Fuzzzz tho. may have to wait until Ruger or CZ comes out with one. what you all think on the new chambering?

I want to know how much the ammo is going to cost per box? And how many rounds in a box?

Going to cost to much, that's for sure. Just get a .17 Fireball, load down to that level if that's what you want and probably do it for less than what that ammo is going to cost. It just doesn't impress me at all. In my opinion you'd be much better off with the .17 Fireball. I have a .218 Bee and I can load it cheaper than .17 HMR ammo costs.

Ammo is suspected to be $15/50rds. Which means 11-13 as long as you buy during discounted price just like everything else.

I have heard prices from $15 to $20 a box. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

So far I like the sounds of the performance and specs on this new little rimfire. Funny how people knock things before they even come out.... This will be a good round for those that live in areas that are rimfire only. It has enough of a performance gain over the HMR to justify making the new caliber. And to top it off, rumors are the cost of 50 rounds is still going to be in the neighborhood of $15-20. So not much more than a box of 17 HMR ammo.
