Well folks, the 2013 Idaho Coyote Classic is over for another year.
But 2013 was a bust for all entered. A few days before the contest was to begin, it began to snow, and snow and snow, in fact the day of the registration, there was a full out blizzard going on out there. But we had 8 teams, 16 brave men, faced the cold snowy weather to try to win the ICC Idaho State Championships.
As the first evening of the contest rolled around, and the phone calls began, teams called in reports of no coyotes killed. Coyotes were being seen, but all out of rifle range. With all teams home from the desert, and safe from the weather, we had reports of snow drifts that were as deep as the hood of a Jeep Cherokee. Slick roads, and lots of wind to hamper the calling efforts of our contestants.
The second day of the competition, and I am anxious & curious to how the teams are doing again.
We arrived at the Fairgounds at 1:30pm to preparefor the days festivities, and to spend time chattting, and cutting up with the volunteers and club members that had shown up to watch the show.
Then, the phone rings, it is the first team saying that they didn't kill anything, and will not be back to check-in, they went home.
Then a team, the first contestants to return to weigh-in showed up, they too had nothing, Zero, Nada, Nothing!
Shortly after, a second team came in, they too had no dogs. Several more phone calls, no one is returning, they all have zero coyotes.
Until one team called and said that they have 3 coyotes, but they had a flat tire on the truck, and they were an hour and a half away, maybe 2 hours due to road conditions. I looked at my watch, they only had 45 mins till the cut-off time. I told him to hurry, they were going to be late!
Needless to say, they didn't make it back, we actually hung around the Fairgrounds talking until 8pm, before we left, just in case they decided to drive on into Emmett, no show. I am sorry that they didn't make it back.
We at IVH would like to Thank the Contestants for braving the cold and snow, to participate in the Idaho Coyote Classic State Championships. Eventhough there was no winners, we had a great time none the less.
Meaning that Nick and Tim Hylton, remain the Defending Champions for another year.
We got to talk to our friends, drink coffee, play with various predator calls, generally had a great time.
We would also like to Thank all that came through the blizzard to help out with setting up the room, and those that came to the Fairground to show your support of the IVH Club and Competition. We appreciate you all! Thank You! We had a great time getting to know you all a little better.
We hope to see you all again next year. We also hope to get to see all you that didn't come out this time, at our next contest.
