hey all, I went out for the first time this past weekend. My dad and I tried our luck at Little Valley (near CJ strike dam). It was fun but no beginners luck for us. We did see some fresh tracks in the snow on our way out of our first set though.
We were using a Primos TurboDogg call and it seems pretty loud. It is possible to over do the volume of an E-call ? The volume goes to 100, and I had it anywhere between 20-50.
I've heard it's good to stay at a set from anywhere between 20-30 minutes.. is that correct ? I started off with Cottontail Distress.. called for 15 minutes with a few 1-2 minute breaks of silence. Towards the end I switched to pup distress. Should that eventually work? (We are basically teaching ourselves based off of what we read and watch on the net. )
On another note: Also, has anyone heard of Vortex Rifle scopes or anyone personal experience with one? I've never heard of em until the guys at Cabelas were all jacked up about them. I looked through the Vortex Viper HS compared to the Nikon M-223 my dad was there to buy. The viper seemed more crisp and clear IMO.

yes you can use to much volume. keep it down at first and if you dont call anything in on the first 7 or 8 min start to get a little louder..this way you dont scare the dog that are close..i had a yote this weekend that barked at me about 100 yards out so i start low we did call in that yote and got her.she came in in 30 secinds so stay low on on volume.at first also i let my call run all the time on the stand.but most guys run it and a minute and shut it off not me let it run ive called alot of yotes this way'just experiment with it

Yes I have several Vortex scopes. One is the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44, they are very very clear and dependable. Also have the Vortex Raxor 10x42 Binoculers, VERY VERY clear. They are in a good price range, if you get a pair you will be very happy with them.
