RESULTS - Blast from the Past Contest

The first contest of the 2012-2013 season is in the books. The Blast from the Past, was actually a Blast of Fun for all that participated.

We had 8 teams registered for the contest. We had 5 teams return for the weigh-in.

4 Teams returned on time for check-in. 2 teams returned late for check-in.

Total coyotes brought in was 21. With 5 coyotes arrived after 6pm cut-off time.

The Winners of the Blast from the Past are:

1st Place with 9 Coyotes - Nick & Tim Hylton - $120.00
2nd Place with 6 Coyotes - Dave Moore & Dillon Kopp - $72.00
3rd Place with 1 coyote - Loren Lunsford & Gary Mathews - $48.00

Heaviest Coyote went to - Nick & Tim Hylton - $60.00
Lightest Coyote Went to - Nick & Tim Hylton - $60.00

IVH would like to "Thank!" everyone that came out and participated in our first contest of the season. We hope to see you all again at our next contest in November - The Northwest Nationals!

Keep up with us on this forums and on our Facebook page, also at our Monthly Club meetings on the second Tuesday of each month.

Hey Gary, you forgot to mention that Eric and I came in fourth, LOL! It was a real "blast". You guys that didn't enter missed a bunch of fun. Even though Eric and I didn't get any coyotes, it was one of the most fun filled couple days I've had. I'm ready for another go at it.

It was a great time..not always are animals harvested when we go to the field. But we always can see some wonderful country and animals. During this two day hunt Paul and I did get to see 9 coyotes, a herd of Elk with a 5 point bull, Turkeys, many deer, and not to mention one skunk which we did give the right away to..now that guy could had ruined the day! (lol) This was the 1st time getting to see and talk with some of you guys! I am looking forward to doing more things with the club in the future.

Loren and I would like to Thank You for coming to the weigh-in. We appreicate it when the contestants show up to the weigh-in, it shows their involvement and dedication to finishing the contest, and support for all the participants and the Club.

We also would like to Thank you for returning your mouth blocks bag.

I am sorry that you and Paul didn't get to bring any coyotes in to weigh-in! But! There is always next time, Right?

I cant tell you how much fun I had over the course of those two days. Like Mark, Bob and I saw alot of different animals and a million acres of idaho. I cant think of a better way to spend 2 days in October.
Bob and I are going for 1st next year Nick .. even if that means we have to follow you and Tim around for two solid days

I've just been wondering how long they had those nine coyotes frozen before the contest. Must be a pain picking up that many road kills, taking them home and freezing them! LOL. By the way, I'm in the market for a surplus drone with spy camera if anybody knows of one available!

This weekend marked a bunch of firsts for Loren. I was so happy that he actually shot the only coyote we got, would have had 2 if I had not missed at 40 yards.

1) He called the first and second coyotes with the New Dusty Roads Handcall!
2) He shot the first coyote with his new custom 243AI rifle.
3) It was the first time he had ever been in my secret hunting area.
4) First time he and I hunted a contest together.
5) First time he has placed in a contest!
6) The first time he drove his Ranger UTV in a contest.
7) There was probably more firsts for him over the weekend!

I am still incredably happy that Loren shot the coyote, he has been through so much with taking care of his wife for the past 6-8 months, he hasn't been able to go hunting, having to be at the hospital everyday or 2-3 days a week. I just wanted him to have a GREAT time, have a load of fun, and just relax, enjoy himself being out in the sagebrush, throwing distress sounds out there, being hunted by the hunter. It was great to be able to witness him being out and having a good time. There was a lot of smiles on his face, the whole weekend?
Thank You Loren, I had a great time hunting with you! You are one Great Guy and a better friend!!!!

Gary and Loren are two of the nicest guys I've met. It's a pleasure being around them both. They are very knowlegeable and experienced varmint hunters and callers. I've learned from watching and listening to them. And I really appreciate them taking me out into the field and calling coyotes. I couldn't think of two better guys to head up the Idaho Varmint Hunters, together they keep the club running. I'd like to say, thanks Gary and Loren, I appreciate everything you do.
