Had a few days of dog calling and killing! Starting with last Friday My hunting partner, Kraig's son was down visiting. He has never shot a Coyote but has herd all the stories told by his dad of good days and bad days. We took him out last Friday and after a couple of calls he made a great shot and then had to finish the yote off with my pistol. The pic tells it all, he was a happy first time yote hunter!! On Saturday, it seemed that no one wanted go go out for a few calls so I let my wife sleep in and went out for a nice ride and a couple of calls. I took this one in the morning, last day of the year. Welcome 2012, my wife and I took a ride out on one of the ranches that we hunt, I took one early in the morning and rolled another one a little later but lost it. the magpies will have to eat it! Towards the end of the day my wife made her all time longest and best shot, 401 yards right through the live well. Tyanna's 401 yote!!

Tell Tyanna - Good Shooting! That is a great shot. That is a long shot! WTG!
Kraig - Very Nice! WTG! on gettting your son out there and getting him excited about calling and shooting predators. It is good to see pictures, and stories like this!!!!
Thank You for your post. Gary

I currently have three .223's and a couple .300 WSM's. My .223's can consistently deliver 8" groups at 600yds with 75gr Hornady A-Max propelled by 25.3gr Ramshot TAC and with 60gr Hornady Balistic Tip propelled by 24.1gr of Ramshot X-Terminator. If I want to make multiple trips a year down to the Owyhee mountains for coyotes should I consider another rifle, or will the .223's be sufficient? I guess I could get some 150gr balistic tip rounds for my .300's, but that seems very excessive. What do you recommend?

I think the .223 is plenty good for coyotes. There's lots of coyotes killed with .223's. It's a very popular cartridge right now.
