I think most of you already know that I shot a Remington 700 V in 22-250 Rem. If it is all good! Why change?
I have been shooting these rifles for 40 years and have owned 7 or 8 Remington 700 V's. I have also helped several friends with my reloads, which made their rifle shoot well, and them to stop pulling their hair out, and wanting to sell or throw their rifle.
For the past 35 years I have reloaded and shot the 52 gr Speer HP. I didn't change because it shot so well, again, don't fix what's not broken. But! I recently realized that the Speer bullet had a big hole, what I dubbed the "Flying Ashtray" This bullet undoubtedly killed stuff well, it also left a really big hole in everything with flesh and muscle.
So! Recently, I decided to try some other bullets, to see if I could find bullets that would function well and were a little more fur friendly.
Well I did find the right bullets for the ole 22-250, and it like them really well, not only my rifle, but Brendan's new Rem. 700 VSL.
The new bullet is a one shot - one kill bullet. Small entrance hole, with no exit. Brendan shot a coyote this past weekend, the coyote was standing on a hard quartering away, he shot, and hit the dog just behind the ribs. The guts pushed out the hole, but when Brendan skinned the dog, he pulled the gut back through the hole, it was only as big around as his index finger - easy sew job with a couple stitches.
The bullet is the Sierra Game King 53 gr Match Hollow Point.
I have shot 3 coyotes (one of which was 312 yards - 3 spins and down for good), and a bunch of badgers this year with those bullets, and Brendan has shot 7 dogs - all of them had no big ugly nasty holes in them. This is a great bullet if you are looking for a fur friendly bullet. Like I said - One Shot-One Kill Bullets! I am sold for good!
Good Hunting Gary
