Oregon Sage rats 5/6-11/2011

Howdy fellers,
I've been hunting the Christmas Valley/ Fort Rock area of Oregon a long time. Back in the day, farmers there would give me a brick of .22's and once the farmer sent his wife out with sandwiches for our lunch.

Last Friday, I went back over to shoot a field that I have been smoozing the farmer with seafood for over ten years. We didn't have the best rat weather but shot about 30+ per person per day, (we don't consider it "good shooting" unless we count over 100 impacts).

This year the farmer turned their fields over to a "guide" that gets $100 per day to shoot. It's kinda sad that it came to that but I don't blame them for not wanting to deal with 1000's of calls, angry people, sobs, etc not to mention a few more $$$ revenue from their fields.

I have one short video I shot with a video scope that shows one I clipped with a .17 HMR that got a case of the flips. I don't know if your AUP allows that.


Now back to more important shooting like spring bears.

Sounds like you had a good trip. I do like the news about the farmer only because it will get you out here shooting these rats with me. I will take you on a guided hunt that will include lunch and some adult beverages.

If you can, I am off May 27 to June 4. The chucks are still out and I can hunt with you for the first three or four days. We have plenty of room just bring you guns and ammo. Let me know.

Took Tyanna out for a spring bear hunt. Spotted one big bear at mid day, to far away and we would of had to cross a small river, with the melt and run off. 81 degrees and clear skies not the best day to be out perusing bears. We did manage to pick a big bag of mushrooms. I'll be cooking them up tonight with some elk loin.

Yeah, I'd rather spend time w/ you anyway, Cuz . Let me know when the Beautiful Miss T connects on her SB. If if wasn't gonna be raining here then next couple days here, I'd think I was gonna get one....they're really starting to get active over here.

I'll check with "the Admiral" about leave over that time...DANG I just check the calendar and it says I've been committed the 27th 28th, maybe 29th.
