Friend of mine told me about an active Red den his co-worker found. So he & I went & looked it over this am. Entrance hole was quite large, larger than normal. Side view of the entrance hole. Den site was around 18' in diameter[hole to hole] Largest exit hole was roughly 12"Hx10W. There are 4-exits in all. Spent a few minutes looking around. Turned to leave & seen we were being watched.

There was scattered wild turkey parts laying around the den area the other day. This den is right off the edge of a long walking trail, that starts in my small town. It go's for a few miles.
Den above is going to be abit hard to get some pics. As I have to get plenty close in order to even see any of the holes. Guess we'll see on that.
One of the other den sites where I've been taking alot of pup pics recently. I finally walked up to it yesterday. Eight holes in all. 1-main entrance, 7-exits in roughly a 18' radius. I've never seen so many exits on a Red den.
All of the holes, are oval in shape. More taller than they are wide in shape. A good indicater of a canine dig vs any other critter.

Leper we all appreciate your knowledge and information on the Red Fox. Whether we shoots reds or not, it is quite interesting to know their life style and habits. One day leper, one day!

Lost my milk teeth hunting Reds as a youth, Kenny. I like them well enough. But on the other hand if their pop gets real healthy. I plan to try my hand crawling up on one with my new pistol some Winter snowfly day. Heck, I'm a fair? shot with it to boot ;D
They are indeed a neat little canine. My favorite I reckon.

I have enjoyed your thread's and the pic's on these red's. You have spent a lot of time and effort in getting these on your camera. I will admit I would have a hard time on which optic lens I would be looking through. Any luck you will harvest one of these next winter with a full red pelt.

Even at their young age, they are very quick little fighters. One of my Bro's & I had two Red pups around the age of the one above. When we were kids.
Adult red fox, when fighting hounds. If they know they are going to lose. They will often get in one last bite & not let go, no matter what. A death grip if you will. Prior to dying, they are a blur in an all out fight, when on all 4's. Awesome

This past wk I found another Red den site. Female only had two pups. Found another den not far from the one I found last wk. Checked all of the other den sites. Three of them were moved by the female.
Too bad the crops are in the field now. As I'd like to get close to some coyote dens for some pics. Coyotes have their dens much farther into the sections, which requires some walking. Their dens are most often blocked from view from the roadways.
Heard last wk about a "huge" black coyote that was seen in my area. Hope to get a view of him this next season. Better yet, put one in him. I have yet to bag a black.
Reds...dumb Coyotes...wary

Thanks, for the thanks, predatorprey.
It does take alot of time & effort[not to mention gas] to get the pics I manage to take. I have no doubts, I'll get one with my pistol. I've snuck up close to many in yrs past. A few I could've hit with a large cinder block. They were clueless, I was there.

I've had real good luck calling in red fox with outrigger outdoors red eye predator hunting light. It's a 10,000 lumen red/white light that is capable of being controlled remotely. bit.ly/red-hunting-light
