I'm new on here. Haven't made to many posts yet. I shot a badger today but it got in a hole before I could get to it. Guess I didn't hit it hard enough. I wanted that hide too. The whistle pigs are out. Shot a few of them too.

Hey broper,
Welcome to the board. Congratulations on the badger kill, but I am sorry you couldn't get it out of the hole. Need to carry a shovel or a catch pole to snare them out of the hole. I made a handle with a big hook on the end of it, so I can reach down snag them and pull them out, works good if you can get the hook into that thick hide.
Later, Gary

Welcome Bob,
Gary has it going a long hook to get them out. Be very careful though, I did this once and there was another badger in the hole behind the one I shop. Shared to poop out of me, I did the 100 yard dash in two seconds. lol
See you Tuesday,
Kenny

Kenny,
That is the reason for the looooonggggg handled hook!! I once reached into a hole, thinking the badger was dead, I listened and watched, and contemplated whether or not to reach down there, when I did; it was still barely alive, it wiggled and growned as I grabbed it, I jumped up and ran leaving a wet yellow streak on the ground for a few yards, when I caught my breath, I went back to pulling it out. So I really do understand what you went through. It is a little scary and hard on the ol' ticker sometimes.
See ya Tuesday! Gary

LOL, I've herd to use barb wire too. Stick it down the hole until you feel the badger, start twisting until it gets wound up in the fur then pull it out. Those badgers can be scary, I've had them growl and pop their teeth at me. I'd hate to tangle with one. I was shooting my .204. Sometime since the last time I shot it the scope has got off. I was having to hold low to hit whistle pigs. The badger was only about 60 yds. and I figured it was big enough I wouldn't have to worry about hold so I held on the center. I heard it hit and saw it fall but by the time I walked up there it was gone. I need to go do a sight in session.
