I hunt Eastern Washington for deer, elk, cougar and bear. There has been a large fire, 117,000 acres burnt and it is fairly close to our camp and still only 55% contained. The National forest is closed, where are camp is, so I may have to try and talk to one of the son-in-laws that has land in eastern Washington and see if I can deer hunt there and a hope and prayer that our elk camp is good by the 30th. If I do not get a deer or an elk this year it will be a couple years and I'll have to rely on duck only again. I like duck quite a bit but would love to mix it up. I got 26 last year, ended up hunting solo pretty much so it was still a game in the freezer year.

The fires have been really bad this year. Hope you can find a place to hunt and do well.

72camaro: Our deer area in Eastern Washington did not open as fast as we would have liked so my son-in-law let me go to his area and it was quite successful. And yes, I did have my hunter orange on for the hunt, I took off for pictures and to gut for a few minutes. Our elk camp, we are now in a mad rush to set it up since the area was closed and just opened recently. We usually setup during deer season. I'll have to take some extra days off from work and possibly make a couple trips up to get it ready. Not looking forward from being gone so long from home but it will be nearly 2 weeks by the time I go and get back.

And it is a long story but we can only shoot spike elk and the Lord blessed me with finding one.

Elk season went well. Long story short, shot it on the run at 100yds looking over a cliff in the middle of a bunch of other elk, 5 minutes after opening hours and could only see the spikes against the snow. The range adjusted was 67 yards as it was a shot high to low. Went through the high shoulder and came out the middle of the main front leg bone, took out the artery on the way down. Dropped like a rock. My buddy also got one, so Top Camp took 2 out of 3 guys. Mid camp got a large male cougar, and Base camp got a big nuthin muffin.
