We had a good day in the squirrel fields. They were all over. We shot 'em up pretty good. We just used .22 l r today but I found myself wishing for a center fire a few times. Fun, fun, fun!

Good for you. You may want to pickup a .17hrm. My usual is close pistols, medium close to 60yds plus, the .22lr and 65 to 120yds the .17hmr, though I have shot up to 225 with it on occasion. I will bring the centerfire though as I've seen some really big ones but they seem to sit about 200yds plus out and you have one shot as they go in after that and only the little ones come out after the shot.

We shot 'em up good yesterday. We got out the hills about 10:30 and were there until about 3:00. They were all over the place. We were just shooting our 10/22's but had tons of fun. Could have shot more but had to get back home.

That's the way to do it. I'm hoping to be coming down soon. Sounds like my daughter is planning on shooting with me, maybe the husband and maybe the grandkids. I'll know more when I get there. Bringing quite a bit of ammo, hate to run short. Montana is still up in the air if I go after Idaho. I'm checking off the days. Been packing starting this week as this weekend is pretty much spoken for with mother-in-law things and my ma is showing at our house the next day with my kids and some of my grandkids. Guns are sighted in.
Really hoping the Whistle Pigs are running around with abandon when I get there. Trying to get her to get her own rifle as one usually gets too hot to shoot after a while.

They should be running around everywhere. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Hope Montana works out for you too.

I'm so looking forward to shooting varmints as it has been 2 years since my last trip. We are still toying at the idea to move to Idaho or Montana, most likely Idaho, after retirement in under 4 years. We got to get out of Washington. Freedoms are going fast along with higher taxes from way to many Progressives. I'd like to shoot varmints more often than once a year.

Yeah, I'd be wanting out of there too. I think you would enjoy living in Idaho. Montana has some really nice country and hunting. I almost went there when I retired but the winters kept me from it. This area of Idaho I live in has the distinct four seasons but the winters aren't bad compared to some other area's.

Yep, freezing in Montana right now and it looks like rain and cold so I'll probably only be in Idaho this year for varmints. Usually is good by now, but not this time. Will not mind getting home a couple days early and actually working around the house if I don't go there and only go to Idaho.
We are keeping our options open at this point. Our state government just passed some more socialist BS stuff so they keep pushing the buttons to make us move. Two people already have moved out of state in our neighborhood because of our state government. It is that bad.

Another good thing about Idaho is that they have passed laws that say all federal anti gun laws are null and void in Idaho. We also have constitutional carry here. No permit needed to carry concealed. We're going out again today. Taking a guy out that's never been squirrel shooting before. Supposed to be 71 and sunny today so should be good shooting.

We went out again yesterday. Didn't seem like there was as many as last week but still enough to have a good day shooting them. I also bagged a weasel. I had just shot a squirrel and the weasel popped up and started to grab it. When it saw me move it went back down. I waited a minute and it came back up, that time he sat long enough for a shot. Gary had seen one earlier but couldn't get a shot at it. Later in the afternoon the wind started kicking up pretty good so we called it quits.

I have seen a couple weasels but never seem to get one. Thought I had one in my crosshairs in Montana and could not believe I missed. They are about as thick as a pencil though. Seems like I may have seen one in Idaho too but not quite sure if my memory is correct.
When badger hunting, is there a time they are more likely to be out? Do I need to go real early before sunrise and sit still from a high vantage point? Wait till mid morning. Once whistle pig shooting we make way too much noise.
The one I did get was mid morning and we just happened to walk up and surprise it.

Yeah, weasels aren't very big, skinnier than squirrels and they are always on the move it seems. That's only the second one I've got. We have shot badgers all times of the day. We have shot more about sunrise or right after though. It seems like there hasn't been as many the last couple years. We haven't seen one this year yet. Squirrels are their main food source and there is still lots of them so I don't know what happened to the badgers. I have seen a few road killed badgers this year so there's a few out there. Badgers can be called too. They don't come as readily as coyotes do but we have called a few. Last year we happened on 5 of them all together. I got three of them with my .223. That's the first time I've seen that many together. We see pairs quite often.
