Hey yall, just joined up. I havent shot squeakers for 15 years (I used to frequent various Sage Rat honey holes in Nor Cal)...but I pulled my stuff out of boxes, dusted off my reloading gear and started cranking out rounds this weekend. I'm about ready...just need to make up a folding shooting table as I like.
Are there any club gatherings/shoots, formal or informal? I'll be coming from McCall, so I'll want to make a day of it.
Thanks - Ryan

No real gatherings of shooters but there a lot of people around here that shoot them. There a few of us that meet at Emmett every Wednesday for lunch then go out and shoot a few squirrels afterward. If you get out in the hulls around McCall you will find the Columbia ground squirrel. They are bigger than Piute ground squirrels we have down here. They are fun to shoot too.

And, if in the right place you can shoot from your vehicle and leave your table in the back. Can cover a lot more ground but I do believe you have to stay on the trails.

Sounds good thank you! I work weekdays unfortunately, but I can take a Wednesday off once shooting picks up.
I'm guessing the Columbia squirrel volume is nowhere near that of the Piute, which seems to resemble the Belding I'm more used to?

Yes you have to stay off any maintained roads if you want to shoot from your vehicle. That's what we do most of the time. Sometimes if we find a big colony we'll set up benches. You are right about the Columbia's but there enough to keep it interesting. My buddy and I usually make a couple trips a year to the high country to shoot them. We usually run across a few rock chuck's also.
