New to Idaho (8 months). Enjoy shooting. Been looking forward to whistle pig and small varmint hunting. Have a 22 TCM rifle. Shoots fast but with a loud report. Not sure if that scares the critters away. Maybe a 17hmr would be better. Any comments greatly appreciated. Also is it to late in the season for whistle pigs? If there are still a few left I would like to know where to go. Thanks, Bob Jones

Hi Bob, Welcome to our forum. Most of the varmint hunting is over for this season. The badgers are out and about because it's their breeding season right now. We went 0ut yesterday morning and shot three. The last couple times we went out we didn't see any whistle pigs. They've gone down and won't be back up until the last of Jan./first of Feb. If you get out enough you might run across a coyote but even that ii iffy. We start hunting them in about Oct. Summer and warm weather is just not a real good time for hunting varmints, at least around here. We are having our monthly meeting this coming Tues. at 7 p.m. if you'd like to come. We also gather at Tom's Cabin outside of Emmett every Wed. at 11:00 a.m. It's not a formal meeting just a hunch of us getting together for beans and b. s. We're always glad to meet another varmint hunter. By the way, my name is also Bob, I'm the President of IVH.
