Howdy all. I'm new to Idaho as well as new to varmint hunting. I will be using a Bushmaster .223 to start off. Being so new, I was hoping someone might be willing to show me the ropes a bit? I live in the Robie Creek area, about 1/2 way between Boise and Idaho City, so there should be plenty of varmints and plenty of room to hunt them! I work a 9-5 job in Boise, so I'm mostly available in the evenings and on weekends. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Rob.. I don't see any replies in two months. Strange. I just found out about iVH at the Outdoor/Sportsmen's show in Garden City yesterday. I'm in Meridian.. retired old guy. I have a CZ 457 .17HMR. Hoping to do some whistle pig shooting. Probably not much else at this time.
Hoping some of the members might get back. The brochure said that it's for beginners as well as old timers. I'd also like to learn some ropes.

Hey idbill, we met rob in person at one of out monthly meetings, that is probaly why there was no posts for him! And the fact that people just don't post up here much anyway! So knock yourself out and make a bunch of story posts, tell us about your varmint hunting adventures!

And for whistle pigs I prefer the .22lr for up to about 60 yards and then my .17hmr for 65yds to 120 and beyond. You may need to have two just to let a barrel cool. .22lr handgun works well for close ones too. Put a scope on it but hit just as many with open sights.

Yeah, the whistle pigs are just starting to get out good. It still needs to warm up a little. That's about all there is to shoot in the Treasure Valley area. You might occasionally run across a badger. Of course you can shoot coyotes all year but it doesn't get real good until late Sept. or Oct. We shoot whistle pigs with .22 long rifle mostly but if you haven't shot them with a center fire you are missing out on a lot of fun. By the way, don't forget tonight at 7:00 is our monthly meeting, come on by and check us out.

Are you guys getting out and doing any shooting? Sorry we can't get together with you. We had to cancel our meetings and the whistle pig shoot until this pandemic mess is over. But you can get out and do some shooting and still maintain your social distanceing. Gary and I have been shooting a few whistle pigs. It's a way to break up the monotony of being stuck at home. We had to cancel our monthly meetings temporily and our whistle pig shoot. May have to cancel the rock chuck and badger hunts too. Get out there if you can and do some shooting and varmint hunting, just don't hang out in any groups. Let us hear your stories and post pictures if you have them.
