Had some bear from the sow my buddy shot and it is pretty beep good. I had some from the bear he shot the year before and it was a bit sour, not sure why, but this year's bear, good stuff. After helping him get it off the mountain I went back and passed on a small bear, about 75lbs. He is still thinking I misjudged how large it was, but it was small. Just got back from deer hunting/setting up elk camp and elk are coming in, whoo hooo. Deer, few and far between. Going back in about a week, White Pass area in Washington for elk season and I can hardly wait. I could hunt and never go to work but I sometimes think I work to hunt. Might have to make a trip to the duck blind this weekend just to setup. So much hunting to do and so little time.

Alright! Glad to hear you're getting some hunting time. Get'r done! I went out for one day on Saturday, didn't see anything but people. I even set up to stands and tried to call a coyote with no luck. Just too many people moving around. I did get stopped by a game cop. He asked where and what I was hunting. Said he had checked two hunters that morning that had deer. He told me that he had seen a pretty big group of deer with two 2 points and a 3 point in it. I told him I'd like to get one of those 2 points but he didn't offer to tell me where he saw them. The area I was hunting is a 2 point only area. After we talked awhile he wished me luck and went on his way. Didn't ask to see my license.
The only bear I've ever had was made into salami and it was real good. I know people that eat it a lot. they all claim it is really good. Some people say the hams are really good smoked

During deer season, I only saw does and we are in a Muley 3 point or better area, the latest bear in the picture above was made into breakfast sausage and was real good.
I had a big bull elk about 50 yds away and a cow 20 yds. Elk season, spike only which is a shame, starts next Friday.

Nice! I'll bet that sausage was good. I wondered if you had muley's over there or black tails. Are you going after elk? I've only shot two elk and they were both spikes, really good eating. I've always been basically a meat hunter, always shoot the first legal thing I see. I guess we're the only ones reading this forum that do any hunting.

Muleys where we hunt deer and spikes only for elk. My hunting somewhat revolves around elk hunting though I've only shot one but have done it for probably 5 years or so. Last year was a bad year for everyone in our area as fires pushed all the elk out and one set of prints the entire season for us at our camp. Now, multiple during deer season and bugling.
Believe it or not our problem is usually not enough pressure from lower elevations as there was a road that is washed out now so a bit of a hike in, even to the lower area so not as many hunters below to push them to us in the higher elevations, as well as weather has been too warm the last 3 or 4 years but this year it turned early so looking good.
