I have owned Honda Trail 90 motorcycles for a lot of years. I take it to the mountains when we go camping just to ride on the logging roads. I have packed deer and elk quarters with no problem. For the last several years I have used it to navigate ranches while coyote hunting, Yesterday I was on a ranch trying to do the rancher a favor and dispose of a suspected calf killer. I was riding a cow trail next to a pretty steep little draw when the front tire hit a rock and jerked the bike to the right and right toward the draw. I certainly did not want to go there so I quite unceramoniously and suddenly laid it down an its left side. I got it upright and horsed it back to the trail. It had died and after a little inspection I determined that the spark plug wire had been disconnected. Fixed that and it fired right up. Only damage to the bike was a bent mirror that I broke trying to straighten.
Me, not so lucky. Scrapes and abrasions on both legs, a knot on my elbow the size of a tennis ball, and a very sore shoulder and ribs. No, I didn't get the coyote. I can hardly wait to get back out there and give it another go. My wife says that a motorcycle is nothing for an 83 year old man to be riding anyway.

Wow, be careful. Glad you made it out o k though. I've always wanted one of those Honda trail bikes but now I think I'm to clumsy and un coordinated. Maybe a 4 wheeler/ATV would be better?

Quads sometimes just cannot go where the bikes can.

Yeah, that's right but I've got just about anywhere I wanted to go on them and they're a lot more stable for old farts.

Good comments, guys. Thanks. The bike has been more practical for me. It is lighter, doesn't take up as much room to store and is easier to transport, either behind a camper or travel trailer. I haven't had experience with quads, but they may be quieter too. Either one can hurt you. Fortunately, all I got was scrapes and bruises. I've recovered and ready to go again. ibb.co/8Pj4pstAttachments:

Good to hear that you've recovered. I like the trail bikes real well and there's some trails, at least in Idaho, where 4 wheelers aren't allowed gut two wheel motor bikes are. I just don't have the balance an coordination anymore and wouldn't be comfortable on a trail bike in rough terrain. And yes you can get into trouble on either one. Have you thought of one of the electric bikes? I've looked at a couple and gave them some thought. They have a 50 mile range and would be really quiet.

No I have not considered the electric bikes. If out for several days charging might be a problem. Might be an option though. The main reason I use a bike is that I hunt mostly on private ranch land. I can usually ride the cattle trails with a minimum imprint on the forage.

I don't know how hard it is to change batteries put a guy on another forum said he carries an extra charged battery.
