We made a trip up into the high country yesterday looking for Columbians. There were quite a few out and about, we shot several. This one Gary shot is the only one we were able to get a picture of. They are almost the size of a prarie dog. We were at about 6800' elevation, it was really nice up there, about 68 degrees, no wind and lots of sunshine. Good to get out see some new and different country for a change. We also saw 3 or 4 rock chucks but couldn't get a shot at them. To follow up on this post: I did get a picture of another squirrel that I shot! Beware this is kinda gory. Mind you I was shooting my AR15 223 with 52 gr VMAX bullets, running around 3300 something fps according to the book. The VMax really tears stuff up, especially under 50 yards. Bob shoots a 40 gr VMAX from his 218 BEE and it will ignite those squirrels like someone stuffed an grenade up their backside! Click Picture to enlarge

Also while we were "splorin we found an old mining complexe! I bet in it's day this was one cool place to be. I love finding this kind of old stuff, too bad it had collapsed from time and weather and no one taking care of it! I would have liked to gone into the mine tunnel to look around! Mine Head Mill Parts Left to rot away Ore Mill Area This place was awesome. There was mining junk laying all over the place, old truck parts, piping, metal parts, stuff everywhere! It was cool. In this last picture (click picture to enlarge) you can see on the right of the old roof at the top, you can see an ore chute that leads from a huge tailing pile farther to the right, we think that there was another shaft or drift in that location, they would send the ore down the chute, to the head, then down a chute to the mill at the bottom of the head! The Miners that worked this area did alot of work on the surface as well as underground! Those were quite some kind of MEN!!

If I recognize the pictures correctly, I had two uncles that used to work in that mine back in the old days!

Those guys would take off after their shift ended Friday and strap on x-country skis in the middle of the winter and ski to Cascade to party at the bar and ski back in time to work Monday morning!
