The son-in-law and I went to Idaho and then to Montana for varminting this year. I think I've gone every year now for about 10 years and others as they can make it. Because of the weather we had just over 2 days for the 2 of us and it was a bit slower than normal and only got 778 confirmed hits on Whistle Pigs and none on anything else. We probably had more but we are a bit stingy on calling the shot but it works for us. We also saw a couple weasels but did not get any shots as they scurry pretty fast and do not usually wait for us to sight up.
And we stayed at the Hylander Hotel. A story unto itself.
Son-in-law Joe and I arrived at the Hylander hotel in Idaho, and I haven’t been in a place like that in a long time, and it was very budget minded and you get what you pay for. So what do you get for 35.00/night, glad you asked. You get a previously heavily smoked in double bed room with a back room with homemade cabinets and early 70’s carpet, and decorated so that the outside and inside would make Pulp Fiction look like it was a current movie. The bathroom had cinder block on one side, someone bought a 6 panel door hinged on the wrong side so they installed it upside down. Not really a problem having the small panels at the bottom and the large at the top but the doorknob was then about 48” high instead of around 36”. Joe was a bit paranoid of the bed covers but I was not and me worry? But, in the morning when I saw a big brown stain on the other side of my comforter after I flipped it back to get out of bed, yuck. They found it cleaning the room and decided it would be a good time to wash the bed cover, you think? Thank goodness there were clean bottom sheets and a blanket separating me from it, at least that is what I’m going with. We got the smoked room because we had brought Joe’s dog Luna the black lab to get used to hearing shooting as Joe is training her to retrieve ducks and other birds. It was really quite a place and no way Robin or Joe’s Heather would have ever stayed there. And I thought they were tough. It did have a pink cast iron ceramic tub that may have enticed them as it did have some pizazz, or something. Hmm, just a chip in the tub, no pizazz.
