So I've been out probably 6-8 times and have been through 20+ stands all over Blacks Creek, Swan Falls, and Idaho City area over the past few weeks. I started using mouth and diaphragm calls, and bought an ICOtec GC300. I go in as quiet as possible, wait awhile before I start calling, always make sure the wind is in my face and usually the sun at my back. I call for 15-20 seconds, wait 2-3 minutes, and stay on stand, very still for 15-20 minutes. I alternate between distress calls of all types, and female, male, and yip coyote calls.
I haven't even SEEN a coyote yet. Not sure what to do. Idk if its the areas, or me, or something else.
Also, does anyone know when the varmint hunters monthly meeting is? I'd like to come meet some of the veteran hunters if possible.
Thanks everyone.

Sounds like your doing everything pretty right. Coyotes are really hard to call in this time of year. I'm not the best coyote caller/hunter but I've learned a lot from hunting with other people that are good. Don't give up, it was about two years before I actually called in a coyote all on my own. From what I've learned, this time of year you want to start using more coyote vocals. They're going to start breeding season soon and they're just not to interested in the distress sounds. Most coyote hunters stop around Feb. or so and don't start up again until about Oct. There are a few die hards that hunt them year around though. The main thing is, don't give up, keep trying. Our next meeting is this coming Tuesday, the 11th at 7:00 p.m. It will be in Middleton at the Sunrise Café. Meetings and events are always posted at the very top of this forum when you open it. Hope to see you at the meeting.
