Went out again today and shot a bunch more whistle pigs today. They're out in full force, lot's of pups out too. I quit keeping track of how many I shoot. There's always so many it gets to be a pain in the butt counting and keeping track. Didn't see any badgers.

Heading out this weekend! Probably be the end of a couple of barrels. Bitter sweet when you have to retire a tube! Hope the weather coopwrates!

I use a pitch counter to keep track. You will find them in the baseball sporting section of sporting store.

I went out yesterday morning just to try out my new Ruger Bisley .44 Special. After shooting some cans and other assorted junk that people leave out there I spotted some whistle pigs running around. I had to try the .44 on them. First kill with it was a whistle pig at ten yds. That 200 gr. Speer Gold Dot HP really did a number on it, not much left. Shot two more at about 15 - 20 yds. and they just evaporated. I did see a head flying through the air but couldn't find it when I went looking. So I can definitely report that the .44 special has enough power for whistle pigs.

Have a WOA on a 223 that might be on it's way out, would probably replace with another from white oak, great barrel. I have an ER Shaw on my 300 Win, thinking a REMAGE for it, possibly a criterion, haven't decided yet. But it will be making a trip to the Smith soon. Need to get a new bolt, when I had the face opened up to a magnum, the guy did a horrible job, just can't look at it, it's too ugly.

The 300 was used on the target in my avatar, my partner and I made several hits at one mile on that piece of steel. I'm on the left. My buddy used his .338 lapis mag. On the right.

Today the Idaho Varmint Hunters, held their annual Members Only Whistle Pig shoot. Started kinda cool and breezy but warmed up and turned out to be a pretty nice day. We shot for a few hours in the morning then at noon we gathered for lunch, grilled burgers and hot dogs. Went back out for a couple hours in the afternoon. Lot's of whistle pigs out, great day shooting. Two badgers were spotted but not collected.

I've been trying to find time for load development on my stock barreled .300 win mag for a hunting load and am trying something different. Supposedly you can do a velocity string, say 10 single loads in .2 grain increments from max load down, find a string of 3 loads that the velocity stays close and is not a big jump and that in-between load you can then start doing load development with distance from lands and find the best load. I'm trying that but have not had time to see if it works for me or not. Working on 168 grain Barnes TTSX and Federal 180 grain Bonded Trophy. What bullet gave you the accuracy to reach a mile? Very impressive.

Used 208amax near 80 grains of h1000 to get there. Ladder testing works. Find that node where they start to cluster and work from there.
Got beat up out here yesterday. OK in the morning, but it was over after a couple hours. Heading farther south today. Hope to find better shooting!

Went out this morning and really shot 'em up. Went and had lunch then went out to a different area this afternoon. Shot a few more but wasn't near as good as the morning shoot.
