I've been 2 years messing around now and again with a 130 grain load, 3 different bullets and various powder and finally found one that works, last 3 shots under 3/4" at 200yds. About time.
Working on a Hornady soft point 55 grain load for one of my AR's, about ready to throw the gun away I'm so disgusted as best I can get is about 3" at 200yds and sometime bigger with a load that looked promising. You never know when you are going to find 'the' load. Even my pet 40 grain load got a best of 1.25 MOA and with my other rifle it is usually closer to .625 MOA on a bad day. Barrels do make a difference.
There is nothing like finding that holy grail of the right combination for your gun.

.270 is my favorite Sounds like you found a good load. Yes, barrels do make a difference. Chambers do too Have tried different bullet seating depths? Sometimes a different primer works. Weird how little things can make a difference. Maybe that barrel prefers a different weight bullet.

While moving guns around this morning it fell to the floor. Going to clean, foul and double check. Yep, I've tried a handful of different bullets and and seating depth on the best basic round. Also check rings and both of my higher powered center fires needed a quarter turn on every screw. Would have never believed it. Check your rings.

Then again, some rifles just won't shoot. It does pay to check screws once in awhile.

Then again, some rifles just won't shoot. It does pay to check screws once in awhile. I was starting to think the .270 was one of those rifles till I finally found this last load. I have one AR, special stainless 24" barrel, that will shoot about a .625 MOA and on a no wind day sometimes 4 out of 5 in .25 MOA, but I'm working on one with a basic stainless 16" barrel now that the average is 1.5 to 2.0 MOA and is making me absolutely crazy as I do not like any of my guns over 1MOA, even my AR's. I think for the most part there is a load for every gun but having the time to sort it out, that is the problem. My biggest issue I have when doing real accurate shooting is any time the barrels warm up even a little bit where you can feel it in the barrel that the point of impact changes some. That's why I bring 4 to 5 guns to a range when sighting in so they all have time to cool between shots. I've got a Ruger 10/22, put a new stainless barrel on it and now it is worse than the shorter 16" blued barrel that was on it. A bit out of luck on a .22lr since you have to buy factory ammo and I have not found any of the ammo I have in stock working consistently.
