I am searching for good ideas on areas to take a buddy from Colorado to search for wolves. I have hunted them ever so slightly and curious how to go about getting info on their habits and areas to start. I believe a little bit in the theory of find the elk find the wolves. I just think that they are way to intelligent for that easy of a hunting scenario.

I can't offer much advice as I've never hunted them. I have seen them north of Ola and down south in the Owhyees but I don't think those are prime areas to hunt them. I think I would try west and north of Cascade up to the Yellow Pine area. Also from Grangeville to Elk City on up into the Lolo/Selway area. The area west of Council might also be good. You need to scout those areas, talk to people and ranchers in those areas. I think the more remote you can get the better your chances. It's true, they will be found around concentrations of elk, they have to eat. I've been told by people that hunt them that the best way to call them is with a cow elk call so that tells me something. They can be called with the same distress calls used for coyotes but I would throw in wolf howls and vocals. Try googling for info and look for videos on you tube. Like I said, I'm no expert but those are some things I'd try. Good luck.
