Anyone care to give a newbie some advice on areas to call for coyote and bobcat close to Idaho falls? I was thinking in unit 63 but just seeing if someone doesn't mind pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks

Hello westernhunter,
Welcome to the IVH Forums! I have been watching your previous post, to see if anyone in your area would chime in with some assistance! But it looks like no one is going to or wants to help a fellow coyote caller. So, I will give you the same advise I give anyone who asks for calling area help!
First off, there are lots of coyotes in your area! There is lots of BLM Desert lands, and a bunch of farm ground out there! If you know any farmers or ranchers, start by talking to them about calling coyotes on their land! Secondly, Start by getting a DeLorme Idaho Atlas, it will show you the BLM land from private land. Pick a spot on the map, fill you truck with fuel, throw in your calling equipment, and go out and scout! Look for areas with a lot of coyote sign, scat and tracks, when you find this area you will want to do some location howling to pinpoint where the coyotes are located, then later! come back to that spot and make a stand. Very Important You will want to a locate a place(s) to hide your pickup, and choose a good calling spot, about 400 yards or so from the road, or where you hide your pickup. You want to make sure when you set-up, to have the wind in your face and the sun shining on your back or you sitting in the shade of a hill or big bush or tree, you always want the sun behind you if you can get it! this is to help hide you from their great eyes. If they can't see into the sunshine, they can't see your outline! If you have a electronic predator decoy, like a Mojo Critter or a Primos Sit-N-Spin, place that out in front of you and up wind 40 yards or so, so the coyotes will home in on the movement of the decoy and keep their attention off of you! I know some guys that live in the Pocatello area that there are coyote callers. I am surprised that no one has offered to help you out! I live over on the west side of the state (Boise area), and I have only hunted over there in the Pocatello area once! So, I am not able to give you any heads-up on areas! So, I did the best I could to try to help you! I hope it helps some!! Good Luck! Gary

Thank you Gary.
I have the Idaho hunt maps for my gps so I know the boundaries for private land. I will be using an Arizona game call, not electronic. You have offered some useful info and i appreciate it. It just seems like a nice winter to get out and try to harvest some good fur. I know there is quite the learning curve and am excited to get out there.
Thanks again.
