2011 Gem State Coyote Calling Championships VII


The Seventh Annual Gem State Coyote Calling Championships to benefit Doug Bridges Memorial Hunts for Wounded Warriors, will be held January 7,8, and 9 2011. Check in and registration will begin at 5 p.m. Friday January 7 at Black Dog Clays 7680 W Velejo Boise. (5.5 miles south on I-84 on Cole Rd. turn right and 400 yards on the right and you are there.)

Entry fees will be $100 per team. Teams that have a Lady or youth hunter (17 or under) will be $75. Entry fees include two meal tickets.

Teams will consist of two hunters no more, no less. Teams may hunt where ever they choose but both members must be at the rules meeting and able to make check in on the 9th on time.

Hunting will begin on January 8 at one half hour before sun rise. Daylight hunting will continue on January 9. Teams must check in their coyotes BEFORE 3 p.m. January 9 2011. Winners will be decided by the number of whole coyotes brought in to check in.

Teams are competing for trophies and bragging rights. Optional sides will be available for teams looking for cash prizes. Big Coyote $20 per team winner take all. Little Coyote $20 per team winner take all. Teams may also choose to buy their team for $25 100% pay out. Based on participation we could pay out as many as the top ten teams or as few as one.

We will have door prizes, a good meal and a great time, we hope to see you there.

Thanks to some great sponsors we are going to be able to pass along $1400 to Doug Bridges Memorial Hunts for Wounded Warriors. That is more than we gathered in entry fees, there is room for improvement but it is a start.

This is a display for Doug Bridges Memorial Hunts for Wounded Warriors.


Monte Bruhn of Doug Bridges Memorial Hunts honored us by taking some time explaining what it is all about. He encouraged us to share our hunt camps with others who have sacrificed so we can do what we take for granted. He also was bringing awareness of a bill in the Idaho legislature that would allow wounded verterans hunt as residents. There was also a young man who was injured in action that explained how something as simple as a hunt has changed his outlook on life. The guys that had dry eyes were swallowing hard, it was just cool.


The new State Champions are Don Burch and Craig Sandy of Nampa. They brought in a State Championship record 10 coyotes. Trophies sponsored by Les Schwab and Hart Farms. Outstanding job guys!


The first losers were Rusty Gamble and Chance Rowley of Pocatello. They brought in 6 coyotes. They also killed the biggest coyote at 34#. Excellent work guys.


Third place was Davey and Ben Moore of Boise. They also killed the smallest coyote at 16 lb 7 oz. Good job guys.


The distance runner award went to Robert Lukens from Huachuca City ARIZONA. Thanks for coming Robert, it was good to see you again.

4th place was Rick Gipson and Jeremy Philbrook with a single.
5th place was Dan Wallace and Rob Waters with a single.

21 coyotes were killed.



Frank Deleon hunted the hunt. He was wounded in action and received a Thank you for your service award. A thank you just isn't enough.

Well it looks like you can finally put a fork in the Gem state predator hunters ass. I see they said on thier board they will not have a hunt this year.

With all due respect I would appreciate it if you kept your forks to yourselves. That was a hard post to make.

I read above what was done last year and I am proud of what was done.



It wasn't just one or two guys that got it done either. Davey, John, Rich, and Jeremy (including their wives) were instrumental in the quality event that it was. It served a higher purpose. Those of us that remain didn't want to repeat 2010.

I see Davey is active here. He is an asset and will serve this organization well.

If you are anxious to put a fork in something it can be in the "Association" or club part.....You are only two years late.
