Bob and I went out yesterday (Monday) and I called a dog in for Bob to shoot! It weighed 27 pounds!
He shot it with his Ruger 204 - 40 grain VMax at 40 yards, it the front shoulder bone, blew its front shoulder into little pieces, big hole! The fur was almost prime! Nice coyote! I think he blew 5 pounds of meat out of the shoulder! LOL
It was a little windy about 20 miles an hour down on the flat land (right after the rain the day/night before, it was still really wet out there), so we found some hills and some areas where the wind was not blowing so hard. We were calling on a big draw, just below the head of it. The wind was blowing about 10mph right into our face from up the hill. I got Bob set up to my right, the flat area that he could see the header of the draw. I told him if a coyotes comes it will come across this flat area, sure enough the coyote came from the header, across the flat, focused on the decoy, walked right in front of Bob, I had walked over to his left about 40 yards and was sitting in a depression in front of some big rocks, I could see straight down in front of me, and a little toward Bobs side, and to the left where the hill broke over into another big draw cut, which lead into the big draw we were above!
All I heard was a bang/whop I knew the bullet hit the mark when I heard the meat smack! So I cranked on the pup distress, and waited a few minutes to see if he was going to shoot again. nothing happened so I stood up and looked at Bob still sitting in his spot, waiting and watching for more takers. He got up, and slowly walked out and picked the dog up! Man was I stoked! I worked hard to get him on a coyote since the Blast from the Past tournament! Finally I got one to commit for him! It felt good to get it done like that! It was a classic situation! At every stand I try to put him in the right spot for him to get a shot, it worked out good this time! A guy can't shoot a coyote if a coyote doesn't come to the call!
