Hello everyone. PANSAL 2016 has come and gone. For those that were able to make it out, it was good seeing or meeting you. For those that couldn't make it, we hope to see you next year.
Gordon sent me the following summary and picture slideshow to send out. I'm glad he took the time to write something up as I'm not good at that sort of thing plus I'm limited on time these days.
I would also like to send a BIG thanks Charlie for taking the out of towners to some other shooting places that were not overgrown with weeds.
I may have won the Pop-Shot shoot off against Ash but will say that it was probably more luck plus the faster action on my rifle that allowed me to win. I think he is probably a better shot than me. Maybe he just psyched himself out when trying to psych me out. Knowing he may lose to me in my first competition when he competes every weekend may have been too much stress for him to handle. =)

Pansal 2016 summary
Pansal was hindered this year by two things -- weeds and weather, yet that didn't stop many of the like minded shooters both distant and local from showing up.
The weeds were those nasty yellow flowered things (mustard?) that more than doubled their height from what they were 2-3 weeks earlier. An attempt was made to trim enough of them down at the Pansal sight to allow us to shoot targets and park vehicles limiting the risk of a hot exhaust starting a fire this time of year (remote but possible).
Weather threatened Day 1 but it was mostly cloudy with a stiff wind that required some serious wind doping if one was to hit a target. Except for the wind doping, the weather didn't cause much problems until later in the day when some showers caused us to seek shelter. Luckily we didn't have the 'downpours' other areas in the valley had. Day 2 was the same in the daytime except the wind was greatly reduced. Heavy showers and wind did show up in the evening causing some precautions to be taken for the gear by those on site. Day 3 was the best shooting day of all weather wise with clear skys and a breeze but it was hot.
Several shooters that attended previous meets didn't think they could make this years event at first yet their situations changed and they made it afterall. One long time attendee had his dates mixed up and made commitments he couldn't get out of missing this years event. This year we also saw several local shooters show up for the first time shooting some impressive airguns I didn't think I would ever see in person, several in the larger bores. Hopefully we will see them again at Pansal. There were also three young adults that came out with family and hopefully they didn't get too bored hanging with us 'old' guys.
One of our local shooters (Charlie) lives fairly close to the site and has access to some private ground not too far away that doesn't have the limitations the Pansal area had this year, plus a wider and more plentiful range of pests to go after. He generously offered his time and access to the private ground for a few hunts which made this years Pansal event much more memorable - especially for those that don't have that kind of opportunity and/or had to drive many miles to get here (Thanks Charlie).
We had a donated rifle (Remington Express) as a raffle prize for those that attended and that I was able to give a ticket to. On Sunday Mad Dawg (Mike Edwards) verified all tickets in the pot looked the same (no folded tickets that can put them on top of the pile) and then drew one out showing the winning ticket to be Greg Schley. Shortly afterwards Leonard verified the 20 tickets in the drawing were valid.
The "Pop Shoot" contest where each shooter has to destroy four(4) lollipops set at different ranges and the one with the lower shot count wins a tin of pellets ended up with two shooters (Ash Covey and Matt Ulrich) who had the same low score of five(5) requiring a shoot-off. Ash shot his initial score on the first day in strong winds while Matt shot his score the second day in milder winds but either way -- these guys can shoot. For the shoot-off both guys were side by side in a speed contest to knock down some steel targets at unknown and varied ranges, then the last target being a pressurized plastic drink bottle in a tubular container with a hole cut in it to shoot thru ideally causing the bottle to explode with a 'BANG' -- but -- I did something wrong and neither bottle worked as intended. It could have been the new foot pump I had to buy to pressurize the bottles or operator error (me) that caused the failure to explode but either way, a second round using only steel targets was used to determine Matt was the winner (this time). The prize was a choice of quality 177 pellets (AA Field, JSB Exact, or H&N FTT) and Matt chose the AA Field.
Ron Gill introduced us to 'Outdoor Speed Silhouette' using rimfire silhouette targets where one shoots free style and has to clear all 16 targets set at four different ranges from 30 to 60 yards. The winner would be the shooter that had the lowest time to clear all the targets. A PCP has an advantage to springers but I tried the game for kicks with my R9 and although I was over twice as slow as the faster time, I must say -- it was fun.
I tried to get pictures of all attendee's but I'm sure I missed several. Also, I know the names of many shooters I have interacted with several times before but I am terrible with names so many of the newer shooters names that came out this year elude me. To save embarrassment and not wanting to hurt any feelings, I didn't try to show names in any of the pictures I was able to obtain.
