Hi Folks
Our Long-billed Curlew field season is well underway and we've begun our capture and banding portion - to continue for at least a few more days late this week and into the weekend (weather pending).
If any of you might have the time and interest to join us, please let me know and I'd be happy to have you. A few quick bits of info:
we usually try to aim for either mid-AM (~815-1030) or late afternoon/evening - and sometimes the planning isn't all that advanced as it depends on weather, nest status, and who's available
the process is involved so it's not a quick in & out trip - at least 20 min on dirt roads each way, 1+ hours for the trapping/banding process, etc. On the last couple of evening trips, we've been leaving after sunset as we've captured 2 birds during the outing.
BUT, if we are successful (no guarantees; we've caught at least 1 curlew in each trip so far, but on a few occasions it's taken us a few tries :-), it's a VERY COOL experience.
a couple pics from birds we've captured so far:

Hoping to capture at least 4 more birds. Might go again as soon as tomorrow but it will depend on weather ... Friday and possibly Sat afternoon/evening are also possibilities.
If you are interested, please let me know via e-mail or on my cell (830-3363) - and feel free to let me know what days/times might work best.
Thanks!
Jay
