It was my reloads! We had put about 8 different types of reloads through it and was having cycling issues. We decided to go buy a box of factory and it shot beautifully. the only common thing between reloads was powder. We used 4198. Looked it up online and found tons of issues with 4198 and ARs. Going to make the switch to a slower burning powder and hopefully it gets taken care of.

I've burned both types of 4198, no issues, and have had some fair groupings, I think in the 1/2" to 3/8" size at 100yds. Mine cycles every time and have never had a problem. I've also found H335 to be the most accurate for me and H322 not far behind.

lyon,
Are you full length sizing your cases each time your reload them? If so? are the dies - small base dies?
Also are you trimming the necks to the factory specs length? And seating the bullet to proper depth/AOL
When reloading for the AR, these things are important to consider.
As for powders, I would try something like Reloader 12, 4895, 4064, Varget, CFE 223. They are much slower burning than the 4198.
My Thoughts!?!? Gary

Good point on the cases. All my .223 cycles and I go to great lengths with my cases for length, primer pocket and flash hole, and they all cycle and if I drop one, it goes back in the 'start over' pile if it has bent the neck at all. I did have one though that did not cycle and when I put it in the gauge I figured somehow it got dropped somewhere and somehow I didn't put it in the right pile to be done again. My son-in-law made me some 9mm hollow points without trimming the cases or even measuring them and they would not cycle in my gun but would in his Glock that I think would cycle a rock, but any factory round would cycle fine in my gun. I have a suspicion you are having the same problem. If you have a case gauge, I would use it and see if it fits. I don't own this particular brand one, but I think you get the idea. www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/barrel-tools/match-case-gauge-prod41313.aspx there is another that I have at home and it actually has a cut away so you can see what the problem is. Here it is, this is what I have: www.sheridanengineering.com/images/SG223REM.jpg

Just watched a youtube video the other day and the problem could be the weight of your buffer. They have about 6 weights and you may need to go to a carbine buffer?
