It has been way less active than it use to be, and I'm not totally sure why.
I'm from Washington and go to Idaho once a year to hunt their Whistle Pigs and other creatures if they showed. And I liked the banter they use to have on this site but I think someone evidently got their feelings hurt and it has been near dead here for a couple years.

I have tried to get people to share their hunting, fishing, trapping, whatever stories and pics but apparently nobody wants to or cares enough so I just gave up. Got tired of me and 72camaro being the only ones on here.

It used to be more active, don't know what happened. like 72camaro said, some got their feelings hurt over trivial things and have been pouting ever since. But there's lot's of othe people that just lurk and won't post. Bashful I guess. If you have any stories or experiences go ahead and post them, we'd like to hear what other members/friends do. I did hunt in the Idaho Coyote Classic last weekend, the 9th & 10th. Saturday was very overcast and foggy and we didn't see anything. I think they get very cautious in the fog when they can't see very far. We managed to get stuck in the mud and thought for awhile we were going to spend the night out there but we finally figured out how to get out. On Saturday we called in three on our first set. The first one came in from the north but wouldn't come any closer than about 400 yds. I decided to take a shot and just as I got my finger on the trigger he ran over the ridge and out of sight. We kept running the fox-pro for about 10 min. with no results so I tried a hand/mouth call and two came over the ridge just about where the first one disappeared. They wouldn't come any closer either so, again, I decided to take a shot and before I could get them in the scope on them they ran to the north and got a bush between me and them. The last time I saw them they were about 800 yds out and going over the ridge out of sight. We decided to give up on that stand and when we stood up my partner used his windicator. Guess what? The wind was blowing right straight towaerds them! So that's why they wouldn't come in, winded on us. Tried a couple more sets but no luck. Got to one of our favorite spots and there was another truck parked there, right out in the open, in front of God and everybody. So we moved down the road about a mile and set up but no luck. Think they were already spooked. Other teams had pretty good luck. You probably seen Gary's report and results on the other thread. So there's a story, Now lets hear from some other people, I know you're out there doing things, Come on, we enjoy hearing your stories.

I've got a story for you fellas!! So I was talkin to a fellow coworker the other day about predator hunting and how much of a challenge it was but how addicting it was at the same time. So he decided he would go out and do a few stands with me to see what it was like. Well I tell ya he chose the rite day, we where out at a spot I like going to its been a bit of a honey hole for me with a pretty good success rate, anywho we got nice and early set up and i started blowin away, about 15-20 min into callin we catch a glimpse of some ears pokin out from behind some brush he was still quite a ways out, ( I had told him on our way out when we see one get a line on him asap and be ready, when i say shoot dont hesitate ) so he props up his rifle on the sticks and starts to track the yote, i get another sequence going trying to draw him in closer and it works, now i really got his attention and he's trotting in a bit, he gets into about 125 yrds or so and stops on a dime and turns back the way he cane from, i finish up my sequence and he stays out for just a bit, i give him a quick bark and he turns broad side, just as he stops his movement i say take him! That yote must have heard me because just as my buddy pulls his trigger that yote turns and runs about 30 yrds back gives one more look back and he was gone. The next one we called in i took myself, he is now hooked and i haven't stopped hearing about his miss on a yote, this is a guy who has shot some pretty impressive animals in his life, and he wont stop bragging about his miss gotta love it!! We are headed back out next weekend. Happy hunting fellas!!

Yeah good story. We'd like to hear stories like that from more of you. I know a lot of you are hunting and other outdoor activities, let's hear about it. It's really not hard to do. Gary, I know your situation won't let you get out much, just hang in there, it will happen again. Maybe I'll just kidnap you and that 6 m/m one day, lol!

Got a report that the whistle pigs are making a debut around my daughters area in Idaho. She works at the National Guard in Boise. Sounds good to me. Early April, bring them on. I'm bringing the laser, tack driving AR .223 along with the .17hmr and the AR will be for anything past 125 yards. Shot 2 really big ones last year and I thought I hit them good and blood all around the hole but I want the proof as they still somehow got into the their hole. That should keep them on the outside of the hole. Thinking about trying to do some longer distance with the little guys and maybe if they are parent size go for a couple 225 yarders as that will be point and shoot. Good times. I can hardly wait. Prairie dogs in Montana first. Start with the big ones and work my way down.

Yeah, there should be a few whistle pigs showing up. I've been sick almost all this month so haven't had much chance to get out and look around. Feeling pretty good though, I'm going to get out there and check it out.

~ Hey All ~
I'm in Twin Falls. Been out several times this winter...lots of pelts and I have had some interesting adventures! Headed out with my good friend Jeremy to an area north of Gooding where there are some nice deer and elk herds, thinking we might get in on some dogs. I was bragging to him about how I've never been skunked with my lucky calls...We got out early, but it was thick with fog and visibility was blah. I always start out my sets with some sort of howl or locator and within minutes we had dogs yipping on three sides. I swear we counted 8-9 individual voices; We both talked later about how we got that "gotta pee" excited feeling when we heard the vocalizations. I gave a few more yips on the howler before I switched to some jack distress cries. Keep in mind I don't own electronics...everything I do in mouth calls and diaphragms. Before long we had two nice coyotes at about seventy yards, but because of the fog I inadvertently sat us right out in an open area with little cover. Lets just say the coyotes had the advantage at this stand! We decided to move into a more advantageous position a mile or so away, so we loaded up and started toolin' up the "road"...His wife still argues the use of the word to this day! As we started up a small hill where I knew I had seen about 30 head of elk a month before, we encountered a small ice puddle. We were off the main highway about 6-7 miles by now, and had gone through several larger puddles before this, so we thought nothing of it. Lets just suffice it to say we didn't make it through this "little" ice puddle. Turns out this particular puddle was a nice little spring...right in the middle of our "road". What's worse, its on my darned GPS as a spring!
So to make a long story a little shorter, after about an hour of digging, chopping sage brush, and every other Idaho desert solution we could find, we called in the big guns to come to our rescue. Only problem is, his wife was the big guns! So now I'm a trouble maker and a bad influence, and he's not allowed to take the family car (2010 Dodge Ram) out hunting any more. We didn't get any dogs this day, but the adventure was awesome and I did find, in all the excitement, a cute little hibernating scorpion. I brought him home for the family to see and turns out he is a she and we are expecting!
Hows that for a story?
Cheers,
Idahosongdogger
