When is the tournament? I usually miss it by about a week as it has to coincide with my wife's time off and she is on a school timed Spring break. I know it is a bit early but has anyone seen any out?
And when do Rock Chucks show again?
Also, talked to a guy from DPMS that has been working on a very small problem I've had with my gun and he was gone for a week doing coyote tournaments for DPMS in other states and the smallest amount brought in was 97 coyotes. Wow. I think he said it was in one of the Carolinas.

We are not sure if we are going to get to have the Whistlepig Tournament. The Idaho Fish & Game are at it again! They are considering to close all whistlepig hunting in Idaho.
But! we are going to carry on like there is going to be a tournament (March 12, 2014). If and when the IDF&G does close it down, we will cancel the contest and post it up on the forums, Facebook, and we will send out emails to all of our mailing list and forum members.
Meanwhile, If you all want to call IDF&G and let them know you don't want the whistlepig hunting shut down! We would appreciate any and all help in this matter. If you can attend a IDF&G Meeting to express your concern with the closure.
Keep checking the forums for further info, as we get it, we will post it!
Rockchucks will start showing when the first buds of spring start to show & grasses start to sprout from the ground.

That seems like crazy talk that there seems to be a shortage of them. What happens when they do go totally unchecked. I know in Mountain Home on the base a gal was being chased by one of the badgers, who feast on whistle pigs and live among the middle of them because there are so many and they don't run out needing to eat about 2/day.

From what I understand the problem is not a shortage. It seems there's about four sub species of the piute ground squirrel and a couple of them are endangered. Since it is almost impossible to tell one from the other, they're just going to shut down all ground squirrel shooting. I think that's their reasoning. If we don't shoot them and they go unchecked they'll get deseased and die off then there won't be any sub species and the badgers won't have anything to eat so they'll disappear too. Bob

I thought the sub species were relegated to one or two areas, not around Mountain Home?

Well, they'r kinda changing their tune a little now. I personally think they just want to shut down all ground squirrel shooting and they're trying to come up with some reason. There was a closed door F & G meeting last night. I'm anxious to see what they came up with.

How do they continue to have the foxes (environmental wackos) guarding the hen house (Fish and Game)?
That's like having global warming nuts in charge of the EPA and our energy.

Exactly. I drove out through the hills yesterday, didn't see a thing. Everything was froze up pretty good so maybe it was a little to cold for them. Got up to a bout 40 in the afternoon but everything is a wet muddy mess then so didn't really want to drive out there then. I have shot a few the last half of Jan. in the past, even with patches of snow still on the gorund. Hope we can shoot a few before they shut us down.

Any updates on if they are going to call of the Whistle Pig hunt or if it is still on?

We are going forward with the Whistlepig Tournament. Until we are told different. If we are told different, we will confront the problem head on then! There was no news from the F&G Commission on this issue!
