I've done what I would call average for most shotgun guys but felt I should be doing much better as I'm usually better than average with a gun. I took my Weatherby pump PA-08 and added an inch to the butt so my finger pull was the right length and just recently put a shim, which they do not have one for my Weatherby so I made one, and now I seem to be hitting anything I point at. I wish I would have done this 2 years sooner. The point is, read up on how to fit your shotgun and do it. I wasted two years of what should have been probably double the birds.
Roughing in finger pull, you should have two to two and a half fingers from your nose to your thumb on the stock; or put it in the crook of your arm and you should comfortably be holding your hand on the pistol grip. Next, mount your shotgun with your eyes closed a handful of times and if you are constantly too low for most you probably need to move up. My 1/8" shim at the top between the breach and the stock equaled to about 2" of comb rise, and it works just about perfect for me. I put in about 2/3rd of that and it still was not enough.

Moving on from the pump to an inexpensive semi-auto. Bought it on a Friday and was killing ducks on Saturday. Yesterday I put a vinyl kit on it. I put one on the pump too and it turned out pretty good, about a year ago. And the semi-auto turned out better I did yesterday, it is Mossy Oak brush. I noticed in pictures that the brush worked great around the duck hunting camo. I just noticed the kits were exactly the same print in the same location. Those little brown things say Mossy Oak.
