I don't know if any of you are interested in the new .17 Winchester Super Magnum, but the Savage rifles (B.MAG) and ammunition is now shipping. Mine is on its way to my FFL and should arrive the end of this week. Ammo is showing up at Sportsman's Warehouses, as well as local gunshops (Boise Guns). Here is a picture of the rifle and some ammo that I was able to shoot last January: Is anyone looking to get one of these? Eric

Sorry for the delay. I got the ammo for about $15.00 a box.
I posted up a hunt report (with video) under the prairie dog forum.

Actually for a little more performance, probably a trade off in higher cost for a bit more reach.

I was in the Nampa Sportsmans Warehouse last friday and they had the .17 WSM ammo for $16.99/box. I can load my .218 Bee cheaper than that and get the same speed with a heavier bullet and better performance. I'm not convinced that this cartridge is the cat's a** !

I reload my Bees cheaper as well. Fortunately for us (more components for us), many folks either don't reload, or they cannot use centerfires during deer season, or on state lands. I've been shooting the heck out of my B.MAG and it is a blast! It's up there with the 5mm rimfire for energy, but shoots much flatter. Eric

Hi Eric, What kind of Bee do you shoot? I have a Ruger #1 and I really like it. I've shot whistle pigs, rockchucks. badgers and a couple coyotes with it. I shoot mostly 40 gr. V-Max's but one coyote I got with the 35 gr. V-Max. I was using 2400 powder but I've change to Lil'gun. It's a great little cartridge and the more I shoot mine, the more I like it. Bob

Hi Bob, I have a few of them. In my Winchester Model 43, I use Winchester 296 with 33 grain V-Max bullets (I picked them up as blems years ago from Hornady). I shoot the Hornady 45 grain HP Bee bullets in my Marlin 1894CL (Win 296). Lastly, I use Lil' Gun with the 33 grain V-Maxes in my Kimber of Oregon Model 82. I used to have a #1 and loved it. Like an idiot, I sold it years ago. Here we are in the old days: Here's a custom ring I had made back in the early 90's: I have an article I wrote on the 218 Bee caliber here: The Underdog Series Part I - The .218 Bee CaliberSend me your t-shirt size and I'll send you one of these, if you want: The Bee is my favorite caliber, by far. Most folks don't understand how fun that round is! Eric

Hi Eric, Yeah, that little .218 is one of my favorite cartridges. I was actually looking for aMarlin 1894 CL when I ran across the #1. I think the Marlin would make a good "truck gun". They're kinda hard to find now, at least around here. I like the ring, good idea. Looking forward to getting to know you and doing some hunting/shooting with you. Thanks, Bob
