My best friends Dad came over last night. He's been pretty sick for a long time but has mentored me in car building and treats me like a son and has mentored his son to be one of the best skilled car builder out of a garage that I know. He at one time was a policeman; built, took pictures, built the engines, painted and wrote the articles as the main car builder for Hot Rod magazine in the mid 80's; was a rigger for Hollywood production sets; was an expert marksman for handguns for the police in tournaments; was listed as the #3 car painter in the world for a while; and many other things. He's dying and knows it. He brought me his Ruger Super Blackhawk that was the first gun he ever purchased, over 40 years ago, along with a custom holster and Buck knife and sheath that is attached to the holster. The knife has never been ground on a stone but buffed sharp and is in perfect shape and has a very fine edge. Told me I was like a 4th son to him. I'm a better person from knowing him. It really makes you think about life sometimes and how others affect you and you affect others.

Shot the 44 magnum today with factory 180 grain Remington loads. It shot pretty accurate after I got it sighted in. Before I left the range one of the range masters pulled me aside and gave me some handloads to try, grouped really well but was super easy to shoot. He said it was a 240 grain bullet with 25 grains of 700X and was around 680fps, fairly slow but for 25yds or less it was fine and he said that is what he practices with to get the mechanics of the gun down for shooting. I even took it to the 50yd steel plate and hit 11 out of 12 and it was because I rushed the shot I even missed the one. Strange thing was the factory loads shot about 2" lower at 25yds than the slower hand loads that grouped well but were 2" above center.

I've got a Super Blackhawk .44 mag and when I got it I was surprised how accurate it was at 100 yds. I'd love to shoot a coyote with it. Maybe the club should do a handgun only coyote tournament?

I wouldn't mind trying 100yds but our range only allows rifles at that distance. The metal plate is the farthest at 50yds for hand guns and it is fairly big so easy to hit.

Camaro I know where you are coming from with getting the Ruger being bitter sweet. 3 years ago my uncle passed away and he left me his 1911 a Colt 45 Gold Cup National Match the first pistol I ever shot and the one item our entire family identified him by. Defenitly bitter sweet.
