My wife and I both ended up with Friday off, this seldom happens, having the same day off just doesn’t happen for us. I let her decide what we were going to do, god I love my wife, she wants to go shoot some Rockchucks, she has never done it and I have only been out once with little luck, I need a favor…would someone point me in the right direction? I want to make sure she gets enough shooting to make her want to do it again…I was thinking of heading toward Bliss somewhere but have never been down after chucks…I know…favorite hunting spots are close to pulling teeth but could someone find it in their heart to at least point us in the right direction…Thanks for any help…oh and if you want to go along just raise your hand..

A few weeks ago i went out on maprock road by the river, we have a spot where we have gone shooting for years. when we where done shooting i went and walked around and saw a bunch of rockchucks up against the hill. maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Map+Rock+Rd,+Caldwell,+ID&daddr=43.447856,-116.731989&hl=en&geocode=CaFrAS0_e6_aFVkhlwId1pIK-SlV0ZW_xzCuVDEZvTEElLMe8g%3B&abauth=dea235de:Dqdi0rP4bVf6m5Mz-ce8hgFQtKM&vps=2&ei=KBmPT-3wEIOWywWX343eDw&jsv=405c&sll=43.448199,-116.731882&sspn=0.004292,0.010568&vpsrc=6&t=h&mra=mift&mrsp=1&sz=17&num=10

Yeah, that's the same area I went last time, didn't find many but it wasn't the best day, thanks
I was thinking of trying a new area like somewhere around Bliss, I see the members have a camp out over the weekend so mums the word on that area I'm sure.

idahohcysp,
Welcome to the IVH Forums. I would like to invite you to drop by and sit in on our next club meeting, get to know us, and join the club, then participate in our events.
You are right we will be having the Rockchuck Rendezvous on May 19-20th. It is going to be a campout, and it is going to be a great time. Dutch oven cooking, campfire pit, and good conversation. You are welcome to join the club and attend the Rendezvous? Membership is $20.00 for single memberships, $35.00 for family memberships (includes spouse, and children under 18 yrs)
Even with all that! we don't have a monopoly on the area. There is alot of BLM land around the Bliss area, which means that we all own it, therefore it is open to everyone to use and shoot on.
There are chuck from Glens Ferry to the Wyoming Border, and almost all of it is BLM Land.
If I had never been in that area, I would go to the BLM Office and get maps for that area, figure out where I wanted to go, then head there and see whats there, you may just run into a huge bunch of chucks, that no one knows about???
I also think you can get maps at the Nampa Powerline Rd IDF&G Office.
They are also having on April 27-28-29 in Bliss a rockchuck tournament at the Outlaws and Angels Bikers Bar. There will be a huge number of people out shooting chucks for that contest.
I hope that was a help, I could see that you were struggling a bit. It is the same with us, we have a hard time finding chucks around here to go and shoot.
Have a Great Day! Gary

Thanks Gary, I was actually going to attend the last meeting and my wife reminded me that they are the same time as our girls gymnastics so that fell through, I'll give it a try next month.
I have lots of maps so I was going to take the ATVs and just start looking, one never knows what he will find, I can't make the camp out but I did end up with Sunday off, I think I will go ahead and join the club anyway, I really am impressed with the work the club did on the squirrel issue with the fish and game.

Hello Rob, Glad to have met you! Sorry about you missing the last meeting. Maybe in May? If you do go out to Bliss or anywhere, remember, if you take the little goat trails, and 2 tracks away from the main road, you will be better off. Thank You for the compliment about the IDFG struggle. We worked hard on it for all Idaho & Non-Idaho Hunters. But, the truth is: I did it for the kids and next generations of hunters. I didn't want them to not experience the joy that I had in all the years of shooting whistlepigs that I had. I have worn out a couple of different 22LR Rifles just shooting squirrels. We also did it for the club, a large part of what we do is "Piggin". It fills in on the off-season for coyotes and such. And I did it for myself, I was not going to allow another Government Agency take away my freedoms, just because they wanted to on a whim. So I started the fight. Sorry - Off My Soap Box Now!!! Rob we will be glad to have you come and join the club. You know the old wifes tale: Strength in Numbers. In Fact I talked to State Rep. Carlos Bilboa early this week he called and told me that he was joining the club also - Is That Cool Or What? ? Anyway, take your maps, and go explore the country side, find a bunch of chucks, shoot a few, but remember to leave a few for seed. Have a Great Day! Gary
