We have a rock chuck problem on some of our farms. Things are eating some of our hay fields. We can shoot em and stuff, but I was wondering if anybody knows or knows of places or people that would buy the rock chucks we shoot. Any places or people that would like to buy for the fur or meat (idk if the meat is good). We were just wondering because we have so many of them and we'd figure we'd try to find some good use for them. Couldn't find anything on the internet. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I don't know of anybody that eats them, although I'm sure someone has tried it. I've never heard of their fur being used for anything, I don't think there's any market for the pelts. About all they're good for is coyote bait.

Id gladly take an invite to knock off a few few of their hrads with some Hornady vmax .223

I was using the .243 on them as I had a bit more wind to buck when we were shooting. I'd have like to use my .223, a bit more accurate but the 40 grainers move a lot in the wind at long distance.

The first 'chucks I ever shot was in 1966 in the hills around Reno, Nevada. The were bigger than the 'chucks we shoot now because they fed on alfalfa fields. I used a 6 m/m Remington with 80 gr. Sierra h.p.'s. That really scattered them. Since then I have used .222, .22/.250,.218 Bee and .204 Ruger. They all do a good job.

Went out this past Thursday and created a little red mist. Didn't get a lot of them but enough to keep it interesting and fun. It was a beautiful day, clear blue sky and no wind. There were four of us and we wound up shooting about 15 or so. We saw several more but they wouldn't hold for a shot, probably been shot at already. First rock chucks for my Ruger American .223 and it done me proud, six shots, six chucks down. Even caused a couple to do aerial acrobatics ! 50 gr V-Max do a good job. The wind started kicking up pretty good about 3:00 so we called it a day at 3:30 and headed in. Fun day shooting 'chucks.

Sounds like a good time broper!! I've always wanted to do some chuck hunting but have never had the opportunity to do so. Maybe one day. Good shooting with that Ruger American!! I have one in 308 and absolutely love it!
