What to you two "OLD" men think about the butler creek bull barrel and synthetic stock for a 10/22?

Yeah, I agree with Nick, get the best barrel you can afford. Personally, I don't see any reason for changing the barrel on my 10/22. It shoots plenty accurate and I get lots of whistle pigs with it. The only thing I'd like to do is change the trigger group on it. The 10/22's do need improvment on their triggers. Hey Nick, sorry for your condition, but I had to practice so I'd have it down when I shoot a coyote. I'm thinking of contacting Fred to see if he can give me some first hand lessons. Hope you get better soon! Bob

yeah that guy that walked up on us from out of the desert was crazy! He didnt mention that he'd recently seen Bob do the "eichler" dance, but he did act like it I didnt mention that we watched him go face first into the dirt after stepping into a badger hole. He really had no business being out there and you could tell that he was up to no good. So my weekend was full of excitement. I met up with Scott (Gatsby) and his Father in Law (from Colorado) and we went out for a 1/2 day coyote hunt. We got out there off of 95 and made a few unsuccessful stands and I noticed a small white dodge truck drive past one of our stands. Didnt think about that much at the time. We continued on and while driving we saw three coyotes and were able to take a passing shot at a runner at 325 yards. That coyote was pure red. I hadnt seen anything like it before. We continued around a big loop out at the base of the Owyhees through some big mud puddles and creek crossings (nothing that a "Fake" jeep like mine cant handle though ) And thats about the time we came up on the white dodge truck again. This time he was stuck in a mud hole and found out that he broke his front drive line. A couple of kids, maybe 19 yrs old, "heading to Homedale" The completely wrong direction. They were heading do South completely opposite of Homedale. (Bob, do you remember how we got into Succor Crk Park? Thats where they were going) He had what looked to be bald tires, no recovery gear, and was happy to see us. They were able to get themselves unstuck and I forded through the mud hole with ease.. in 2 wheel drive They were shooken up but got turned around and said they were going to head back out the right direction which I recommended they do. They could have walked out but it would have taken them a few hours to do so.

Eric, You're having some weird encounters out there. Starting to wonder if I should continue hunting with you, lol. What did youb say you were putting in your coffee? I really would like to get in a couple more hunts before it gets to warm though. Bob

Hey Dogsgone Glad you got registered here. Yeah that was fun getting out there. Even better that we saw and got to shoot at coyotes! Looking forward to hunting again with you someday. Bob, As soon as the badgers, rock chucks and wee pigs get out we'll be focusing our efforts on them. We'll need to get out there soon for coyotes. With both of us working the Sportsman show this weekend it may not happen soon enough

I was curious if the Fish and Game has changed the whistle pig area this year, Last year it was north of the Snake River and south of the Payette River, from the Oregon Border to Boise, Is this still an open area? The reason I’m asking is I heard the Fish and Game wrote a bunch of tickets in the Sand hollow area last weekend.
I can’t seem to find anything in the regulations, they are so user friendly.
Thanks.

idahohcysp, The area has not changed. And as far as we know, it is still legal to shoot squirrels in the area you described. IVH has a leeter from IDF&G from last year, showing the areas that the squirrels are protected in Idaho. The Federally Protected area in Idaho is North of the Payette River, which includes Upper Gem County, all of Payette, Washington, Adams, and part of Idaho Counties. Please be aware, the upper tip of Owyhee County is also closed to shooting squirrels, they are protected. also the extreme lower edge of Owyhee County is also protected. If you will look here on the forums, we have posted a copy of the letter and the map that shows the areas you can and can not shoot squirrels. If F&G was giving tickets in the Sand Hollow area, it was probably due to other violations, such as no licenses or shooting from the road/vehicle. We were assured by IDF&G that their Officers were aware of the change and was instructed to not write tickets for shooting squirrels in the Treasure Valley. Until I hear different from IDF&G, I am going to be shooting squirrels. I would suggest that you print out the IDF&G that was sent to IVH and keep it with you while out shooting, and if you are stopped, show it to the Officer. Here is the link to the IDF&G Squirrels Letter to IVH: idahovarminthunters.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=idfg&action=display&thread=548Gary

Thank you I knew there was a map here somewhere but couldn't find it, also just to make sure I just called and talked to the Fish and Game, they let me know nothing has changed and stated the tickets that were written had to be for something besides shooting whistle-pigs, I'm betting no licenses

It appears Elmore county, Mountain home specifically, does not have any restrictions. Whooo hooo.

Hey Nick, oh legendary master. I was out shooting whistle pigs the other day and my dog caught one and mangled it up pretty good but when he left it, it's back legs were still kicking so I shot it and put it out of it's misery. But what I wanted to know is, can I claim .5 whistlepig? If I do claim .5, do I have to change my name to .5whistlepigslayer?

Forgot to mention, my uncle and I went out this afternoon after we filled up on beans and cornbread. He shot 10 and I shot 13, great fun.

Yes, from what I've seen you should be given the green light for the .5 Whistle Pig but you will need to wait for confirmation from the Fraction Authorities, Moose and Dogslayer.
