Hello Whistlepig Shooters, How many of you have built a dedicated "Whistlepig Gun?" Post a picture of your "Piggin" Gun(s). And give us a description of the gun and all the modification you have made to it. I will start this off: Here is my Piggin Rifle. 1) My Piggin Gun is a Ruger 10/22 Stainless Steel Model. 2) Replaced the barrel with a Green Mountain Benz Chambered .960 Stainless Steel Barrel. 3) Barrel Channel hogged out to fit the barrel on 2 different stocks. 4) I polished the trigger group. and shortened the springs. 5) Weaver 10/22 Scope Base, and Weaver Rings. 6) Bushnell Banner 3x9 Scope. The camoed rifle is mine. This is one of the stocks that I built. You can see here that we are using 22lr Ruger 10/22's. Mine is the one with the camo stock, it is modified, with a Green Mountain Bentz Chamber Target barrel, the action has been polished, the bolt beveled, springs changed, and the stock modified, by opening the barrel channel, the carbine stock knob has been modified by adding BONDO and shaping the forend. The scope is a Bushnell Banner 3x9x40. Loren's rifle is a standard model Ruger 10/22 factory, also his 22lr pistol. He is going to start modding his 10/22 with a new barrel, and action work or a Volquartzine action (nice). I will post pictures of my Dodge Charger Green and Black Stock as soon as I can. Happy PIGGIN!!! Gary

Somewhat new to this. only place ive been is off the side of emmett highway kinda by that richy rich neighborhood Hello blazinworm23, Before I get started! Welcome to the IVH Forums. Glad to have you here. We would appreciate you telling us a little about yourself. Those 17hmr's are good whistlepig weapons. And they do shoot farther, and more accurately than a 22LR. Especially with that scope. Good stuff! When you say Emmett Hwy and the Richy Rich neighborhood, do you mean North of Firebird and to the east of the Hwy??? Yeah I know that place! It is good shooting, or at least it used to be. Where to go, that depends on how far you want to drive. South of Boise is a good place to go (Pleasant Valley Road). There is alot of desert out there, pic a spot, stop and shoot, there are literally a GaJillion squirrels out there. You can go out to the Sand Hollow Tract across I-84 Freeway from Sand Hollow. Thanks for posting. Good "PIGGIN!!" Gary

nah its south of firebird on the west side. If your coming from emmett towards state st., after you pass firebird, go down the little hill the highway turns from two to one lane and theres a little dirt turnoff area to park on your right with a couple dirt tracks going west into the foothills. Its not the best place (lots of ppl go theres to atv, hike, shoot, etc) but i live in star so its nice only having to drive a couple miles. If you can get it to yourself there are plenty of pigs, not a "GaJillion" but enought to make it fun.
Thx for the new spots ill have to check em out this weekend.
ya im lovin the .17hmr i couldnt believe that a bullet smaller then a pellet could do that much damage to a whistle pig and the bushnell scope a this quality for a $100, no complaints here.
I saw on the side of your post your from emmett. Have you been to the outdoor gun range there? Any good? The only other one ive heard of is out in caldwel/nampa area and they want $50 to sign up and another $50 for a key to the range. I saw on the emmett ranges site that they only want $25 and theyre a lot closer to me.
And i really appreciate the help never been a part of a online deal like this. im just sick of asking my friends questions like this when i know they have no clue haha

OH Yeah! I know where you are talking about. I thought all that below the subdivision was private land. I saw they have the road blocked off.
The place I was thinking of is, if you drive on Hwy16 north, past the old Halfway Village, about 3/4 to a mile, on the right side is a driveway that goes to a gate. That is BLM Land, alot of people shoot in there. They park at the gate and walk in and shoot.
All the land on the West side (left side) of the highway, from the last house on the left side, to the top of Freezeout, and a mile wide, is Private Property, belonging to Lt. Governor Brad Little, and is posted no hunting/trespassing.
Yep! The IVH President, and myself, live here in Emmett. I have lived here for 35 years. We have some other friends that live here, they were involved in beginning the IVH Club.
The shooting range here is the Gem County Rod & Gun Club Range (GCRG). It is a good range. They have rifle and handgun ranges, and are always working to make it better all the time.
I am actually one of the people that re-started that club and helped to get the range started about 15 yrs ago. If you want to join the GCRG Club, go to ESE Gun Shop on S. Commerical St, in Emmett, and see Tom, he can sign you up. They also have a website. Just Google them!
There are several other Organized Ranges you can join? Parma Rod & Gun Club, Homedale Gun Club, Blacks Creek Shooting Range, Nampa Gun Club. These are the prominate ranges in SW Idaho. I would have to do a search online to get the names of the others.
I would suggest Parma Gun Club. There are a bunch of nice people at the range. They have a Club House there, and they are active in their Club meeting, and Directors meetings.
The Blacks Creek Range, you have to be a member of the NRA before you can join their club, which is not a bad thing, but there are people out here that are not a NRA member.
Well You are Welcome! That is why we are here. I would like to invite you to attend our meeting on Tuesday April 10th at 7pm at the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant. Come out and check us out, and then decide to join the club, and be an active member, helping us direct the clubs direction.
Good Hunting, Gary

got my piggin gun pretty much finished up for now (until further funds are allocated) ha. i had to instal a swiveld stud to mount bipod on. The sling mounts for this gun are part of the mold of the stock, not the normal metal swivel studs i usually see, and are slightly recessed into the stock so i couldnt get the swivel stud mount attachment on my bipod to mount properly (wasn't very sturdy or level). Luckily my bipod came with a metal swivel stud which i installed with no problems. Kinda made me nervous having to drill into a synthetic stock right along the seam but it worked out. Also raised the comb of my stick a bit to get a proper cheek weld while being able to line up with the scope. Luckily i had some seat cushion foam (we use it to make new couch/recliner cushions). Just cut out a few strips and duct taped them down one at a time slowly building it up til it fit me. Then used electrical tape to cover the ugly duct tape and somewhat match the color of the stock until i can make some kind of clothe sleeve to slide over. Now shes ready for the field. Attachments:

After putting that much attention and money into the gun, it seems we all tend to skimp on the optics. It is just the nature of the thing! Which is OK, you can always, when you have the funds, upgrade the scope, to a better piece of glass.
The old saying goes: You have to make the engine run, before you make the outside cherry!
Good Hunting! Gary

This is the Savage 12 LRPV in 22-250. Has the right bolt with the left load/eject port. Pretty much bone stock with the Millet 6x25-56 on top. Its a bit overkill for the grounders but thats all its shot so far Attachments:

This is the other Savage model 12 in .204. Im still breaking in the barrel on this one but so far its shooting well. Again, this is bone stock with a Millet 4x16-50 on top. I really need to invest in a 10/22 for the grounders. Attachments:
